Other 5mm crank/dasa topend question

looking at getting a 5mm crank to use on a dasa powervalve topend. this may be a dumb question but how come on dasas site if you order a 5mm crank with there package you can only get 85mm pistons everything else is n/a.

thank you

I believe it has to do with the angle/throw of the 5 mill crank. It does'nt lend it self very well to larger bores. I wish I would have known this before I bought a 5 mill stroker motor myself. I would of wen twith atleast a 6mill so I could actually utilize my bottom end for bigger cc's other than up to 85.5 or 86mm

So if you get a BIGGER stroke crank than 5mil you can run BIGGER pistons? But you can run those same BIG pistons with a ss crank? What is it about the 5mil that limits piston size that's not an issue with other cranks?

I am probaly completly wrong as usual, but when Paul originally built my Lamey 5 mil he set it up with 85.0 kawi flattops. (pn 813M08500 wiseco). I have since found that is what the majority of Lameys were setup with for many years. When Art re-ported my motor I had him look to see what it would take to set it back up with SD 951 pistons or Yamaha pistons and he seemed to think that would be a bad idea due to port timing.

I think it is as simple as Lamey set their cylinders up for the Kawi flat tops originally. Brian or Tricky should really chime in let us know the real 411.

buy a 6 leave the 5 mm for the guys who HAVE to have one, (like gil), billet stroker cranks pretty much all cost the same.

These motors love 10MM cranks

Exactly. Why go shorter on the stroke if they crank cost is the same. (Case prep might cost a little more, though)

only reason i was looking at a 5 mil is because a member had one forsale id like to go 10mm but dont want to wait for crankworks. ill save that for the next one. so no go on the 5mil guys ? id obviously like to run a different piston than 85mm. im gonna run the total loss and from everyones feedback it should rip with this setup on a stock stroke anybody run a stock stroke pv with total loss ? (dasa or xmetal) and im using a limited b pipe

Crankworks has what, a 3-5 week wait?
You're going to waste a lot of money going 5mm first and then 10mm. Why not wait the extra couple of weeks? It's winter.

Also, I think DASA has the 10mm stroker cranks in stock.

i understand that, now i have a pump question, i have a 144 coming from jetmaniac how much is too much motorwise to suit this pump.

You've got a 144 mag? I guess a better way to word the question is, At what point will you benefit from a larger pump with your motor set up?

I guess thats up for debate.

Matt, are you jumping up to a larger than your 140 for your new stoker motor?

I just went throught all of this too. I had a 5 mill crank so I wasnt buying one. And yes there is only one top end to go with at that point.
If you are just buying the whole thing then go more stroke so you can go big bore. It's only money! Do it once and do it right.
And crank works isn't that slow.

Just build a kawi motor a stock kawi crank is a 6mill stroked yami and the cases are 100times stronger.

DASA has penty of cranks in stock and more on order. I will check to see what Kyle has and get back to you.

The only reason I have a 5 mil is that's what Paul thought I needed when he built my motor originally and it's what he had in stk and he sold it to me STUPID
cheap. It is XFT Lou's 1st crank that he bought new and broke a rod quickly. Paul sold me the crank for 350.00 and I had to pay the Crankworks bill which was
450.00 incl 'counter to counter' air freight from AZ to GA.

Had I known what I was doing then, I would have done alot of things differently. The good news is I have had alot of fun learning and now will have that knowledge for a long time to come. (And as far as 850cc motors go-I do own the grandmasterspankmaster
motor)

Can you run a 2mm stroke crank with the 88-91 mm bore size Also can you big bore the old cast lamey cyls with the sleeves they use in their billet cyls for 88-91 mm bore

I am running the cast Lamey cylinders and I don't THINK there is enough meat there to bore big enough for the 89-91 sleeves. I may be wrong tho. I have the 85-86-5 sleeves and they are really close to the jackets from what I can tell. Again, good question for Brian or Tricky.
