Can someone help me understand the Yamaha engine codes? I searched and didn't find anything specific to what I was looking for.

Here’s what I know (or believe to be correct) .
Basically there are engine cases and cylinders with codes. I know 93-94 blasters have 61x cases and 61x cylinders 701cc single carb. In 96 they have 62t cases (dual carb) with 61x cylinders same as 96 and newer Superjets. 62t cylinders are 701cc but with different exhaust bolt sizes??? They came off two and three seater 701s??? So what is a 64u? Is it a 760 cylinder with what size bolt holes? Can I slap one on a 62t case? If so what are the pros/cons vs boring out a 61x cylinder? Lastly I assume all heads have to match cylinders.

I wish I could create a compatibility chart.

61x case works with the following cylinders :
62t case works with the following cylinders:
64u ….is there a 64u case or just cylinder?

The 64U is just a 701 couch engine that had a 62T cases with a single pulse line fitting that would accept 760 sleeves.

The 61X cylinder can be bored up too 84mm and the 64X 760 cylinder will go up too 85mm before big bore sleeves are needed.

YAMAHA Crankcase Application:

6M6 = 650LX, VXR650, WRIII650, SJ650

61X = ProVXR 701, WRIII701 SJ700 (`94~95), WaveBlaster1 (`93~95), Raider 701 (96~97)

62T = SJ700 (`96+), WaveBlaster (`96+), Raider Deluxe, XL700, Venture 700

64X = GP760, WaveBlaster2, Raider 760, Venture 760, XL760

63M = Raider 1100, Venture 1100

64U = XL700, XLT700

65U = GP1200, XL1200, SUV1200

66E = GP800, GP800R, XL800, XLT800

66V = GP1200R, XL1200Ltd, XLT1200

60T = GP1300R

Thanks #.0 This is a great starting point. I like the engine casings and the ski in which they originally came in, very helpful.

Does anyone know the cylinder codes for each of these as well as a few key points such as bolt hole size/pattern differences.

Bottom line is while gathering parts I want to make sure it will all work together. If I buy a 62t case what cylinder and manifolds will work.
Thanks all.

Why are the heads all over the place on Yamaha skis?

For example, all 96+ superjet have a 61x cylinder but not a 61x head. They have a 64U head on them. I'm not clear on what the diff is on a 62T case and a 64u case?
Does anyone have a grid like this:

......................93-95 Blaster.........xl700............96+superjet.....blasterII....gp1200.....etc
head code
cylinder code
case code

Some heads have thicker castings and some have different dome sizes.

If you need to know what head, cylinder and crankcases are on each engine just use the oem parts diagram.

The first three digits of the part number will tell you the head, cylinder and crankcases used for each year & model.

Basically....

6M6 and 61X motor - down draft cases (manifold sits level on the cases)

62T motor - side draft cases (manifold sits at an angle on the cases)

61X cylinder (94-95 701) has different port timing than the 62T (96+) cylinder so it is preferred for surf riding set up when paired with the 62T cases.

The heads are a bit tricky... they all have different openings for the water jackets.

For example: The 61X head is wide open so most any AM head gasket will work on it and the holes for cooling will line up no matter what. The 62T head is more specific and you have to use an OEM gasket for them to line up.

6M6 (650) cases can be bored to accept the 701 cylinder and they work pretty good, they just have smaller reeds.

Btw Rix - we finally got out there and got crackin on that hull. Ready to start assembly soon.

Rix, did you ever locate a spreadsheet on this info?

No I didn't. I just took the recommendation of pulling up the OEM diagrams.
#0's quick run down of the engine code and skis they came in is the starting point.
93 blaster had 61x cases, 61x cylinders, and 61x head. 96 blaster had 62t case, 61x cylinders, and a 64u head. Therfore, a 61X and a 64u head are interchangeable? I never got to what is the difference.

i´m a newb. but correct me if i´m wrong. they didn´t change the cylinders on superjets 96 they only changed to 62t cases and keept the 61x cylinders. so 61x cylinders should be stock on all superjets from 94.

They are all 61x cylinders. perhaps Supertune could confirm if the porting was changed in 1996?
