I think I'm going to finally use the 760 motor I bought for the blaster back in Dec. I recall someone saying that you could find helicoils that will screw straight into the current bolt holes and bring the threads to the same diameter as the 61x cylinder.

Anyone know where I might get those?

I think that they are the 8mm with 1.25 thread type which will fit into the 10mm 1.25 existing holes. I think that you can get them at most auto supply houses. Try the chain stores first, someone said that the actual helicoils are about $1 a piece but the install tool costs a few more bucks when you buy the initial kit.

The thread pitch you suggest is correct, But a much better option to the helicoil is the Time-cert. The kit is about $45, but the incerts are about $5 each for SS. Look at your long term plans for the cyl before you decide which incert to use.

I've always had very good luck w/helicoils. The only personal experience I had with timecerts was in a 760 cylinder and 2 pulled out when torquing the exhaust manifold.

Yeah, what he said, SS would be alot better for the no rust option, and stronger too. :hail: That is why you make the big bucks Paul:biggrin:

I use Timecerts excluseivly. If it's a performance cyl that will under go repeated teardowns. The Time cert is by far better.

I too have had timecerts "Pull". If the cyl has worn threads to begin with, or the cert wasn't installed properly. Any mechanical fastner will fail. It all leads back to taking you time & doing the job correctly. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world!

I agree with Paut about the Time-Certs. I have just done a lot of work on the new RR Superjet which uses a 760 cylinder. Yamaha supply special M10 bolts with a 12mm, head to mount the pipe similar to the two used in the OEM pipe, this means these must be an OEM part so should be available from a Yamaha dealer. They are probably expensive but stronger than any insert.

I agree with paul on this one. Helicoils will work and may work fine for you and never create an issue. But I will have to say I have had them actually pop out over time on me.
