62t cylinder exhaust port timing

so I read were these 62y cylinders have a higher exhaust port opening.

I slide my sport port template into one, and it is the same as it fits a 61x cylinder?

the casting of the cylinder could be taller, but the sleeve is lower like the 61x .

are they all like this, or has this one been messed with?

just curious!

Thanks

Err...that's confusing. You mean the template lines up top of the cylinder, top of the port, and bottom of the port?

Why, that's un-possible! LOL...seriously, I remember it lines up 100% on a 61x, so it shouldn't line up on a 62T.
How could it have been messed with to lower a port?

Yeah, I don't see how that would be possible. When I had a 62t and 61x cyl on the bench side by side, I seem to remember that the 62t exh. ports were about 4mm closer to the top deck. All other ports measured the same height. Maybe it is an alien cylinder from area 51:sneaky:

Matt, please measure the exact distance from deck to port top and port bottom...I'll do the same to my 61x.

Err....that handwriting looks familiar

Uh...that looks like it has a 61x sleeve installed. I haven't seen that before. I guess it's possible to do that...call Paul. He might know.

If you're on a budget, get a 62T cylinder. If you're wanting more bottom end, go with a 61x with either a smaller bore (than 84mm) or re-sleeve to bigger sleeves $$$

so are you sure my 701 62t is not a normal one MattE?

I was hoping that the other one I have coming in the mail would have the same port height as the one I posted.

I dont know yet.

when I get it, I will post pics.

I have a virgin 61x cylinder I just checked with some calipers. It's measures 40.6 mm from the top of the exhaust port to the top of the cylinder.

My 1994 62t Raider cyl had that sleeve overhang also at the top of the exhaust port. It's like Yamaha made a different casting for the 62t cyl., but then used the regular 61x sleeves, hence the overhang. . ?
Maybe the 760 cast is the same as 62t cyl casting, but has the 760 sleeves with ports raised and matched as they should be?? I noticed on the GP1200 sleeves I just got have large, tall, squared off ports. I have not measured them though. They are supposedly the similar to 760 sleeves & I am hoping they will work with the stroke.
