62T Starter Issue

Hey guys,
Looking for some advice/help. 96 62T Waveblaster 1. Went to start it but nothing at all. Checked battery, ignition wires, starter solenoid, start/stop switch and continuity everything seems to check out. However I stuck my hand down to the positive wire that connects to the starter and finally had a small noise from the battery but then nothing again. Took the starter out completely and hooked it up to a battery charger and it spins continuously but seemingly slow. 1. How fast is a good starter supposed to spin?

it's not so much the speed of the starter but the torque you need to worry about it should torque pretty hard when you apply voltage to it, one more pearl of wisdom, a lot of times when you pull starters and put voltage to them they will work, starters with worn brushes get knocked around just enough on removal to make them spin over, put that starter back in the ski and it probably won't work again, starters are fairly simple open it up and take a look.

You will still read continuity through a mostly corroded hot/ground wire with a multimeter. The issue really only rears its head when under load. Bet you your hot cable is about on its way out. Starter should spin with decent torque and speed though.

A friend of mine just went through a starter issue on his outboard and asked me about possible reasons. I suggested he test the battery wires going to it for any resistance above what his meter would normally read if he were to just touch the probes together. He never mentioned the test results but ended up replacing both cables and said it works like a new starter again. Now he's irritated at himself because he left it for so long going downhill like that and never once thought to try changing the cables out for new ones lol.

Voltage drop testing is really the only way to diagnose bad battery cables, follow the linky thingy :
