The 701's will interchange no problem but the 650 had a much lower rev limit and mabe some other differences but they will work on a 701. There should be a number stamped on them, the 701 starts with 62T not sure about the 650 but probably 6M6. Hope this helps.

x2 650=6m6

I had the same question , I got on xterampowersports.com and cross referenced the stock part numbers between A 6m6,61x,and the 62t ... they all come back as the same part number.. im putting a 61x into my 91 sn and it would be sweet if all my electronics work back, being I blew the rest of my build $ in other places on the ski..lol .hope this helps

6m6 stator and CDI will work fine with your 701. You will need to do one of the CDI mods or the lower rev limit will reduce performance though.

My understanding is:
61x (early 701) and 6m6 (650) marked CDIs will work with either a 61x or 6m6 stator.
62t (later 701) marked CDIs have one connector that's different so it will only plug into a 62t stator. I've heard they will work with 61x or 6m6 stators if a gender changer is used for that connector. But, I've also been told it doesn't work. Never tried it so couldn't confirm.

Roo, if the CDI plugs up to the stator it should work fine. People have been running protec modded 6m6 CDIs for years. If in doubt, install and swap the cdi if the motor doesn't seem to rev out.

Sadly, I have 3-4 CDIs where the writing isn't legible too. I've been thinking about doing the rev limit mod just to be safe. Pulling the electrical box apart is a PITA
