650sx Smoking

I have a 1989 kawasaki 650sx that I rebuilt the engine on last summer. It started and ran beautifully but the hull had a leak at the exhaust pipe so it was a brief season for it. This spring I pulled the exhaust port, fiberglassed it over and redrilled the hole for it. Everything was finally done but tonight after reassembly, it was drawing power from the battery as soon as I connected it. After a few minutes smoke started coming out of the small hole in the flywheel cap. Any ideas? Is the stator fried now?

you have melted the ground wire all the from the electrical box to the stator, it also now has the rest of the stator wires melted to it.
