87 650SX swap with 93 Kawasaki SS 750

I recently picked up an 87 650sx as a project ski fun ski and runs great (pump is extremely noisy).

my question(s) is does anyone have pictures of how they swaped a 650 engine with a 750?

i've read where pwctoday has lots of posts on the topic (must you created a seperate account for that site)?

It is a bolt in swap, you can either use the entire 750 elect box and strap it onto the side of the fuel tank or mount it somewhere or use the stator and flywheel off the 650 on the 750 and use the 650 electrics. The cases must be modded to accept the stator if you want to use the 650 electrics though. You can view threads on PWCT as a guest just as you can here, you might not be able to search threads though.

no. the 650 and 750 pumps do not interchange. you may be able to replace the bearings in yours, or, i have good clean, freshwater 650 pumps here if you need one.

actually, yes you CAN use a 750 pump in a 650. You have to modify the pump shoe a bit, but it is a way better set up than the 650 pump because you dont have to silicon it in all the time when you remove it. So no it's not a direct replacement, but it IS possible to do. One of our mechanics at work did it to his ski. (He also has a 750 motor in his 650SX)
I just did a 750 swap into my X2 and i am using the 650 stator and electronics. You will have to mod the cases a bit like WFO said, but it's not too difficult. You will need to drill holes and tap them for the stator and also grind out the front part where the stator fits into. Also if the cases aren't already drilled out to slide the wires through, then you'll have to do that as well. Took me a few hours to do it all. I just put it in the hull last night and as soon as i get the pipe on this week I'll have it fired up!
One last thing... when you do the swap- if you dont have an aftermarket pipe, you will want to mod your stock pipe by extending the cone and taping the head pipe to dry it out a bit for more bottom end. Good luck!

stunts is correct, the conversion "can" be done, but it is NOT an easy job. you will need to reshape your pump tunnel, and then fit in a 750 type pump shoe. if i remember correct, you may even run into shaft length issues.

it can be done though, and if you are building a race boat, where you are pulling the pump alot, it is easier in the long run.

send me an email direct, if i can hep out.

I have a quick and simple question I have a 750ss Kawasaki Jet Ski the people before me put a 650cc Kawasaki jet ski motor in it I am doing a motor rebuild on it my question is can I run the 650cc motor with the 750 cc Electronics they are currently bolted together right now and apparently they were working just fine before the ski overheated

I have used 750 electrics on 650 engines. I know 92-94 flywheels fit. Do some searching on flywheels, people were saying later 750 wheels aren't clearanced for early shafts. All my flywheels are old.

Just another quick question I'm rebuilding my 750ss Kawasaki motor I noticed when I pulled the two rear seals off of the PTO there was Grease in between the two of them not thinking anything about it when I reinstalled them and seal the case halves together I did not put grease in between them to seals will this be ok or do I need to disassemble the whole thing and start again thank you very much for reading this

You forgot the part about making an intake grate. The pump shoe isn't a perfect seal so to get best performance the sxr guys I know are siliconing their pumps anyway.

The splines are different between 650 and 750 models. Fortunately there is a 750 driveshaft the same length as the 650sx shaft. I'm pretty sure it is the SS that is the same, but I;ve taken apart more than just SS models so I don't want to say for sure which shaft I have that is the same as the 650sx shaft. X2 owners don't have an alternative shaft so they have to have their splines lengthened / ground or have the prop cut.
