hey guys, just bought a 87 650sx. got a few questions. I was told it ran. put a battery in it and push the start button but nothing happens, no clicks, nothing. so I jumped the solenoid with a screw driver and starter turns over, but not engine. so I pulled the exhaust and starter off and got that out, but don't know how it works begind the case. so is my solenoid causing the push button not to start? and any idea on why the starter wont turn the engine over. thanks

Meant to say starter bendix isn't releasing. You may be able to soak it in some carb cleaner or wd40 and work it by hand if there is just gunk caught up in it.

^^^ Yes, to replace the bendix you need to pull the flywheel. Don't screw around, get a new bendix, it will save you money, time and headache. Trust me. The starter relay inside the e-box not working or not getting the contact when you hit the start button. Open the e-box, check the relay and work your way up to the start button. PS Can you turn the crank by hand?

ok thanks guys. I figured it was the bendix. might as well buy a new starter as well. the e-box is the black box on the back left side of the engine compartment that has the 2 wires from the battery going to it right?

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Mine did the same thing when I first put it together and it made me scratch my head for a bit. Once the battery was fully charged it was fine
