87 js550 good price?

Hi all, new to this forum but was seeing about getting a js550 I saw, it is a 1987, looks pretty nice, couple aftermarket parts like a stainless prop and quick steer, kid said 900 bucks. Too much? Freshwater ridden only.

Thanks,

talk him down to 600 to 700 for a good deal.
it is 30 years old so unless it's seen a rebuild or 2 it's probably very tired.

I paid $500 for an 87 a little over a year ago. It ran but I ended up doing rings, carb rebuild, flame arrestor, new fuel lines, primer, paint, & Gatorgrip. I'm into it for about a grand now.
Depending on what's been done on it, and what else is available in your area, it might be a descent price. Or it might be early in the season & get you on the water for a fair price.

Its actually for my girlfriend, I got a little excited and bought a new superjet the other day and she was like where's mine? So not even sure if this would be good for her?

Try and talk him down to 600-700 like they said above. 550 has plenty of power for a beginner and you can't go wrong for $600. She can always upgrade in the future if she wants more power.

those old 440s n 550s dont need a whole lot of compression to run thankfully

Ive ran 440s with 90/90psi compression

Guy said he went to use the ski and it wouldn't start so they rebuilt the carb and installed new fuel lines. Everything looks clean but I'll try and fire it up tomorrow. I opened the fuel separator thing and dumped it out. I should probably dump the whole tank of fuel but he said he put stabilizer in it before he put it away. New plugs and starter as well as a new battery last year

usually when the stock fuel lines are replaced by somebody that doesn't know what they are doing, ends up throwing away the restrictor jet in the return fuel line and then the carb doesn't build any fuel pressure and it starves for gas on everything except idle.
