Just started my 08 superjet for the first time tonight:fest30:. Its my 1st ski and I have a fuel question. A friend told me that I should avoid 89 ethanol and use straight 91. I went ahead and purchased 91 and mixed 25-1 for break-in but will using 89 ethanol damage the engine?

Thanks in advance.

using too low of octane "could" cause pre-ignition and damage the engine. using too high will make the engine run cooler but requires more compression to properly burn.

congrats on the new ski, enjoy.

89 octane with 10% ethanol. Here in Nebraska ethanol is the "big thing". They are building plants everywhere. I was not asking about E85. I wouldn't use that shat to start a fire.

I am breaking it in tomorrow. It is going to be in the 70's however I hear the water is around 43. Can't bitch, saw Officer Mike riding his with ice in the background.

I think all gas has 10% ethanol now you should be fine with 89 and a stock motor if you don't wanna spend the extra change

Thanks. To be honest, I thought it sounded like BS but I didn't want to chance it. Still kissing my wifes arse after neglecting to tell her I was buying a "new" ski. Can't imagine what I'd have to listen to if I broke it in the first month.

I would like to build a sj next winter. I probably won't be tearing into my new one too much and may try to talk a friend out of his sn.. I do have a bilge pump coming and will be adding new hood hooks, hood seal from jetski solutions, stubby pump cone and a primer. I attempt more freestyle stuff (attempt being the key word) and have mastered falling off. I'm in the learning/hurting stage right now.

I will second or third that advice, I have seen some friends use that garbage AM hood seal. It sucks and will disintegrate in no time. The OEM seal is the only way to go. DO NOT remove it! Save up your money for a B pipe and a ADA girdled head with 35cc domes. Then you can re jet, run 91 octane, and enjoy a lot more brap..

Thanks for the advice on the seal. One of my friends was going to replace his as well. Should I mess with the hood hooks or will the stock setup work sufficient?
