951 in my 750sx freestyle buildup

well, I finally got the motor here. It took a little trimming of the pipe to get it all in there- but it fits. Im going to have a hard time getting a gas tank in there, and moving the battery to the other side, and building a new waterbox to keep it friendly for the lake. Other mods coming before summer are molded sponsons, new turf, RN superjet pole. Im pretty sure this will be the first 951 in a 750sx hull.

How much room you have for a waterbox back there? I was trying to think of some options for you but I need a general size.

I have a lot of room, im moving the batterey mount to the other side, and building a waterbox to fit where the batterey used to sit. I have about enough room for a stock 750 sx waterbox, only problem is the pipe sits on the other side.

My plan is to put a sheet of aluminum through a slip roller and make a tube about 7 to 8 inches in diameter and 11 or so high, weld the seam, and put an inlet on the bottom, and on the opposite side an outlet at the top. If it falls into place like im hoping, I will only need 3 inches of hose on each end to connect it to the stinger and pipe. It should come out looking like a TDR 750sx waterbox with modded inlet and outlets.

Maybe he could just foam in one of those inline silencers under the tray? It would be a bitch to get it out, but at least it wouldn't be as loud.

Thats what I did on the X2 it was still damn loud,I am not running a waterbox though,I think she still may have some of those on ebay but the inlet size is not gonna match up either,it was even smaller than the stock 720 setup. The 951 exhaust is like 2.5 inch I think.

I can definetly build something the size of a large coffe can that will fit in there and do the job. Any suggestions on how to baffle it? Id love to see a cutaway of a waterbox.

Do you have a date your looking to have this done. I am pondering the same issue. I can get a 951 complete running boat, a 94 xp and a dble trailer for
$2k. I will be watching this thread. Keep us posted. Can't waite to her of the power generated by the 951.

I didn't want to cut my sj box open to find out but, from the looks of it the main thing about a water box is to have a baffle that divides the box and a hole or opening across the bottom that will be under water so that the inlet is up high has to go down into water to go thru the hole up and exit out.

this is just my observation not a technically expert factual statement. anyone who knows more feel free to add to or correct me.:Thinkingof_:

what are you gonna be doin for keepin the water out? how high are the carbs from the bottom of the hull?

If I were to just run air filters they would sit at the bond line, I was going to run proks with outerwears, but decided to make an aluminum airbox with a single 3" flanged filter back between the ebox and the side of the hull, kinda where the stock waterbox was. Also closing off the top inlets on the hood, front inlet on the hood, opening both rear openings and glassing them up to a single hose that will run far away from the carbs. And not to be left out a dual breather on the handle pole. I also threw around the idea of lining the bilge with fuel cell foam to eliminate sloshing of water if it did get in.

I think that airbox idea is a very good one, should work fine.
