SXR Adivce with turf

Ive got an 04 sxr (red) that needs some new turf. I thought about doing some footholds but i dont think i'm going to keep the ski b/c i'd rather get into a superjet or AM something in the future. Where is a good place to buy, straight from hydroturf? Should i just buy the kit for the sxr or go with sheets? I was also wanting to do the rails... how do i go about that? Just rip the plastic off and turf in sections? I was thinking of the black and red, marbled black or snow camo i think. Thanks in advance.
Oh was also going to replace my RXP's turf as well.

You can buy turf from a few places, hydroturf, blowsion, wamiltons...... You can either go with the precut mat kit or buy the sheets. I ended up going with the precut, and it went on fairly easy. The order to turf would be: 1.sides, 2.dash, 3.tray then 4.siderails. Add two coats of contact cement on the ski and two on the turf while letting it dry in between coats.

Marble seems to wear fast and white get too dirty and red turns pink in no time. IMO
I prefer to buy sheets but then again I have foot holds.

Blowsion, 1 sheet will do a while ski, and footholds if you are smart about your cuts. Diamonds go Length wise, along the sides. Diamonds, go side to side, in the tray. Have plenty left over for chinpad, etc

Ya unless you are planning on selling it right after turfing it, stay away from marble or red. they look great right when you do them (good for sale) but one season in they will look 5+ seasons old (bad for sale)
I personally have the white camo on my ski......I hate it and cant wait for it to be gone.....seams like alot of people put it on before selling it just for the new owner to rip it off.
Also the single sheets seem to turn out looking a little better. you can hide the seams better and make the cuts just right to fit your ski instead of trying to make something already cut fit right to the ski

Hydroturf used to sell a kit for the rails that came with filler pieces since the hull is not nicely rounded underneath the stock rails. The kit will allow the sides to come up and just wrap over the rails all in one piece. It's a good option if you don't want to spend the money on fiberglass rails.

Oh and to clarify i was going to leave the stock rail caps, i meant how do i go about turfing the bumper all around the ski? How is the two tone black and red? That is probably what i was thinking for both skis.

the blowsion pieces are not really necessary and break pretty easy. you can add some body filler ot the indentions on the tray and get a nice turf finish. heres one i did on a red sxr.

^^^^^^that is nice&^^^^^^^^^^^
If you want to tone, do it like that, dont get the red mat with black diamond tops, that crap falls apart supper quick where ever you normally stand will be solid red after a very short while.

Add two coats of contact cement on the ski and two on the turf while letting it dry in between coats.

Don't coat the ski twice, it doesn't make it stick any more. Coating the turf can help since sometimes it can get absorbed more than you want. Use a heat gun to make it dry really fast, don't wait the stupid 20 minutes for it to get tacky. Applying glue and laying the turf down should take no more than a few minutes per section.

What kind of footholds are those ^^^^? Contemplating on just guttin up and doing footholds and railcaps. I have no experience with any of it though, would hate to cut into my ski and not properly glass in holds and have it leak.

Ya thats what i was thinking. What materials do i need to fill stuff in and smooth it out to pad/turf over? Has anyone had better luck with the two tone turf? See from searching that in the past it wasnt good quality but seems to have gotten better. Would like to just do black/white or white/black. Really would like to do urban camo but it doesn't look like they make that anymore.

Think the plan is to take the rail caps off and smooth out and take off all the bumpers to turf them. Dont think i'm going to try and do footholds as i want to snag a SJ in the future. How do you get the plastic bumpers/rail caps off? Drill out the rivets i'm assuming?! After that rip out the old turf then what? Sand with something rough or do i need to use some type of adhesive remover? Then start turfin after everything is clean

Yeah just sand all the left over glue off, clean the dust/debris and start turfing. I've never had much luck with adhesive remover, always go straight for the sander.

I wouldn't bother turfing the bumpers if it was me, but if you drill the rivets out just replace with stainless hardware (incl lock nuts)
