Advantages of a Pump Dump

Is this only advantage of a pump dump is to save the scupper flap?

It's a scupper or one way valve that exits in the pump area instead of the rear of the ski.

I wouldn't recommend a scupper that exits in the pump, because I vaguely remember a few years back, my dad's ski with a pump and dump had a zip tie stuck, holding it open, and we couldn't get the zip tie out. The hull took on water until we got to the launch ramp.

Seems like there would be no big advantage and it would be harder to get to if something happened.

I cracked my hull between the scupper tube and chine, I doubt it would have happened without the tube.

if you want 2 scuppers and have rear exhaust.. other than that i dont really like the idea

Ask wamilton, he has been doing them for over 10 years and still does them.

It is easy to get stuff out. you just add water to the hull and then raise the nose and it will flow right out.
If it does not, guess what, if you are riding the water will flow right out anyhow.
Both of my wamilton's scuppers leak like crazy if I sit still or leave the ski in the water for any length of time. When riding, the hull is dry as a bone.

ok, understand if your running a one way or scupper on the exhost side that it turns into the pump.

any advantage to turn a oneway into the pump instead of going out straight the back on the left side of the ski.

Don't some people have problems with scupper valves getting damaged by continually landing on the tail? Is that a reason to move the scupper into the pump area?

I think that was part of the idea of putting it into the pump area. I figure its to keep from blow-outs, and looks/for exhaust purposes. I run a scupper in the pump, and there really is no difference except that i never see it.

Scuppers in the pump SUCK!!!! My last ski had one & I blocked it off with a Ball on the engine side. It always leaked more, I don't think there's enough pressure to keep it closed. Plus once it gets a zip tie stuck you gotta pull the pump out to remove it.

gravity and momentum is what makes scuppers and one ways work. Whether it dumps in to the pump area or out the rear does not make a difference.

If you have a zip tie stuck in it, take a garden hose and run it into the hose from the engine side, turn on the water and blow the zip lock out. Or, just let the hull fill up some, then take off and ride with the nose up then pin it. The water will most of the time force the zip tie to break loose.

I can believe with all the aftermarket hoods out there for SJs that someone hasn't copied the FX hood/plenum design so you won't need scuppers and bilge pumps. My FXs stay bone dry with just the stock siphon bilge and I beat the shiz out of it!

Friend had an FX for a while, I can remember him pumping water with his bilges for just as long as we did with our 550's or SJ's.

fx hoods are the driest of any.......



I have a pump dumper one-way in my F1....works perfect, never had a problem with it yet..

I liked the pump dump for my internal one way valve. It was out of site and it didn't really have any negatives.
