Super Jet Advice on what year Superjet to purchase (I own a 91 today and want to upgrade)

Hello all,

I am going to purchase a used Superjet as a second unit (I currently have a 91 what is heavily modded and I love it). I am trying to decide what year I should look at which will give me the characteristics that I am used to. I don't race or freestyle, but I enjoy the handling aspect of my square nose '91. Any advice on what year I should look at or stay away from?

More info - I want to purchase a unit in the 2000 to 2009 range (for me the decision will be mostly $$ driven, so I want newer but might not be able to justify).

So, any thoughts on what year I should focus on?

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks - I wasn't sure when it changed. How does a 2008+ handle compared to what I am riding? Turning, jumping, etc? I just want to determine if I would like it or if I should nix it from my search.

Thanks for the quick response - much appreciated.
Dave

Stick with the SN pre '96 SJ
Try out a RN- they feel top heavy and big after riding a SN.
You have to lower the handlepole and get a lowered hood to make a RN feel like a SN

the 90-93 sj's are very nice + cheap most of the time. under $900 !!!
the 94+95 sj's have a better mid-shaft assembly and a 701 motor instead of the 650 motor.
the 96-07 sj's + up have better cranksases (62t), dual carbs, different top hull, better lighter handle pole, and a alum waterbox.

the 08-10 sj's are basiclly the same as the 96-07 sj's.
it has a smaller tray that is not good for the fat or big kneeded rider's, and is a lot skinner on the lower deck towards the back pump area.

Wow - I TRULY appreciate all the feedback!!! My decision is now much harder :(. My '91 is a tired ski, and I figured something newer would have been similar but now I am concerned. I didn't want to go as old at a '95 but I think I might need to just to have the ride I enjoy. Keep the feedback coming please.

Thanks all,
Dave

No, it wouldn't.
Some people hate the way the 08+ rides. I would strongly recommend you try one before buying it.

Ok - thanks (this truly helps as well). I was trying to have this deal done before summer begins, but it sounds like I might need to wait. Any additional feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Although the squarenose and roundnose(pre 08') share the same bottom deck they do ride differently. I have an 03 and a 90. They are basically the same but turn a bit differently.

I find the squarenose turns better at high speeds. That is just my personal opinion though. For freestyle either one is fine although there are more options for hoods with the roundnose.

sounds like '96 thru '07 is your best bet.

Lots of parts and mods available because they stayed the same for so long. Plenty of everything you need to make it do what you want.

When I got my 2010 I frickin hated it! But after spending the time to learn the new hull there is no regret at all!!!! But the 08 and up hulls will take some time to get use to. I was a die hard square lover.

Some crazy different opinions here. I will add to it. An avid sn rider will feel more comfortable on an sn until they spend some time on a rn. I have owned both pre 08 rn and sn,s at the same time and can tell you the sn always felt heavier and more glued to the water. Makes it a better carver/ bouy boat imo than the pre 08 rn. But if that's what you want then an even better Carves is the 08 and up hull (by far). If you want a freestyle hull but want to stick with OEM then the pre 08 rn is the best out there. Reinforced they can take some abuse and are more agile then any other oem hull. If your in the market for a ready for freestyle rn then PM me. I have one that is ready to go reinforced, footholds and all the other good mods at a reasonable price. I would consider partial trade if you need too as well.

First, BIG thanks to all that submitted. I LOVE my '91, and after some great feedback and a lot of research I think I am going to look for an 08+. My 91 will give me what I still enjoy so it will be the best of both worlds. Now help me find a reasonably priced 08+ ski.

Thanks,
Dave

Good move.
Why get a RN if it's just the same as your SN but for a lot more $$$ ?
I skipped the whole RN just for looks thing and got an 08. Now I have both.
