aftermarket start stop switch?

why has noone produced an aftermarket start stop switch that doesnt suck? my ski runs perfectly, but my start stop switch keeps on giving me problems. It is clean as can be and still gives problems. If I jump the red and brown wire, it will start all day, but as soon as I plug the switch back in I have nothing. Someone make a good one that doesnt fail so often!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you guys must be riding my ski. My switch is always acting up, I hve to push the lanyard key in at the same time I push the green start just to start it. I thinking of converting mine to a Kawasaki one, since I have never had a problem with them.

i was thinking the same thing, my kawi switch has NEVER failed me. Or I may just remove the switch altogether and just jump the wires on the water. It doesnt give off that much of a shock.

Sometimes it's not the switch but the wiring going to it. One tiny nick in the wire and saltwater will eat right through the copper wire. Would be nice if manufacturers used tinned wire .

Hmm, weird, the start stop switches on both my skis have been perfect for as long as I've owned them. An aftermarket one would be pretty cool, though. Only problem I see with it is the liability of making an electrical product for a watercraft.

Hot Products carries one that will function for both stop & start. Look on their 2010 website or catalog. I will have photos later.. It's very similar to the Octane system.

I have a polaris start/stop with a bilge button on my ski. Sure, it's from a couch, but it works every time.

Even if you clean your contacts and everything looks good, they get wore out enough that the little post that goes down in the hole will not press in far enough. Thats when I grind that post down a little so it can go in far enough again for a good contact.

With a little bit of maintenance, those switches can last quite a long time.

Every once and a while mine will just not work (no start, no click) unplug the switch, plug it back in and it works flawless. A while back I had suggested somebody made a nice aftermarket switch with the same functions of the OEM switch (lanyard, start and stop, maybe a bilge option) with O ring seal(s).
I would much rather spend the money on a bullet proof start stop than a billet flywheel cover.

Keep dielectric grease in the connectors to the ebox, make sure the switch seal is good, and clean the round switch plates every now and then.

If you store your ski (esp for extended periods) with the lanyard clipped in these will last longer. Clipping it in puts the seal in its relaxed position. I leave mine in all the time unless I purposely want to disable the start button (kids playing on it ect...).

Mine randomly stops working also, its not the connectors either. I have to hit the switch really hard to get it to start working again
