Air temp sensor question

I have been chasing a limp mode issue on a 2005 sxr 800. If i disconnect the air temp sensor probe that sits in a hoop at the ebox it revs up. My question is: does disconnecting this sensor advance timing?

Yes it does advance the timing slightly

Edit for clarity:

Removing/disconnecting the oem sensor at the plug does not affect timing. Looping the wires together at the plug advances the timing slightly.

The green plug is a standard oem style automobile plug. I used to go to a junkyard and cut them off of Subaru’s for pennies. Take them home and use a weatherproof butt splice wire connector to connect the wires on the pigtails on the newly acquired junkyard plugs.
Doing this gets you a sxr timing advance for about 50 cents.

if I remember right, you can disconnect it without advancing the timing
If you loop it or use jumper wire, it advances timing 5 degree's
I was thinking it was more like 3 degrees, I always ran the PJS Timing plate, let you go from 3-5 degrees advance. And that 3 degrees with the plug was not as consistent.
