Another newbie question...

I got really great input on my first post so hopefully what's likely to be another lame question is ok to throw out there to the experts.

I am sure some might say this is a dumb move but since I can't afford a really sick ski, I started thinking about just upgrading the 440. Specifically, I am wondering if anybody makes a carbon hull that does not cost too much. I know from my other post that I am probably dreaming about ever doing a backflip on a 440, no matter the upgrades, but am hoping that with a carbon hull the weight will be dropped and I can then at least do some tricks easier.

And since I dont yet have a matching outfit for the lake like some, I also figured a carbon hull would look cooler lakeside...or would I be called out because its really just a dumb idea?

Thanks in advance,
Mikesee

Sure they are available, will run you about $8,000.00
wow, really? i feel more dumb than usual...unless you are kidding, which i probably deserve, I cant believe they are that much but then again i know nothing of carbon other than its the best material for things like mountain bikes etc

just pick up a squarenose superjet? No offense but a 440 costs like nothing nowadays and the ride of a squarenose is SO much better than a 440. Much different in my opinion.

Simply put, you don't need a sick ski. I'm super jealous of all the guys riding 30K skis doing backflips. But I started off on a 750SX and upgraded to an older superjet(701) and was very happy for a long time.

thanks so much! i appreciate the input.

maybe i will then save my money and sell the 440 since i am guessing then a squarenose will get me on a much more realistic path of pulling off a backflip

Honestly I would just ride the poop out of the 440 for a year. I started on a 440 and rode it everyday for like 3 months, rode it in the surf and in the creeks, had a blast!!!! Riding a 440/550 with no power will make you a RIDER, it will teach you about body positioning, weight transfer, and how to make a ski do what you want.

Save the $1500 and continue to put money away, once you can afford a decent RN then sell the 440 and make the upgrade. I know everyone wants a badass ski right out of the gate, but its pretty clear your budget will not allow that at this time.

Not sure where you are located, what the weather and riding season are like and what conditions you are riding in, but I would just get out and ride the balls off that 440 and learn.

Definitely don't drop cash into the js, it will never satisfy. like stated above go with a superjet, they will BLOW AWAY any js. even an old square the 701's left mostly stock are like honda mowers, the just keep running and pulling

Drop a 701 in your 440 and once you come up with a superjet hull you can swap everything over. The conversion kit is like $340 bucks and you can pick up a stock 701 engine and electronics for 500ish, give or take. You would still have funds left over to put tons of cool stickers on it and a stock 701 would be a huge upgrade.

Good idea, but IMO this mod isn't worth it unless you put a 144mm pump in the js.

My Honda Harmony mower sucked after 2 years. Cmon Mikesee, you got the internet obviously cuz you're on this site. You've seen the whole skis for sale section. You can look at vendors websites and see the retail price of this stuff. I'd be amazed if you haven't been on Craigslist and seen what Yamis and Kawis go for. You know what this stuff costs. What gives? Are you like the "Secret Shopper" of the X? I also find the comment about "matching outfit for the lake" both humorous and a little weird at the same time.

I doubt anyone has any molds do a 550 hull anymore. So they would have to make a plug from an existing hull. Then make a mold. And then build a hull. This would not be cheap. I would look for a SJ superjet. They can be found.
