Any Replacements for Yamaha Ebox Screws?

Ok..So I personally hate the Phillips head screws on the Yamaha Eboxes.

Every time I get them in, they are usually stripped and it takes forever to get them out.

Anyone found bolts that will work? Would love it if I could just put an 8mm socket on and pull them out..but I know these are some weird screws.


Also couldn't you just drill and tap the metal ebox for whatever thread size you wanted? Then use bolts?

Matt; were you able to find screws that matched the threads of the oem screws?

When I built my 07 I ordered a complete ebox from JSS and it came with a brand new cover with no threads. The screws cut the threads the first time they are installed.

I didn't think of it in time but I should have tapped them and installed a course thread stainless Hex head screw. It would take alot longer to remove the screws due to the increase in thread count but at least you could use a drill without as much fear of stripping the heads.

Any flaws to my thinking? I'd actually like to hear a reason why it wouldn't have worked so I can stop kicking myself...

I've never needed to remove the screws with a drill.
It's plenty fast with a ratchet wrench, and really: how often do you do need take the box apart?

The side you are screwing into is the plastic front side so you can't tap.
I've replaced mine with course thread stainless phillips screws. Never had one strip.

I've never needed a drill either but once the heads start to get rounded, a drill makes it so much easier to keep pressure on the screws and keep the bit aligned to prevent slipping.

I have always used a cordless drill on a low clutch setting for removal and installation. Final tightening is done with a screw driver that accepts bits. Use a #3 Philips and they will not strip.

I don't know if it would work, but I wonder if threaded brass inserts screwed and glued would work well. They sell them at ACE.

I'v replaced mine with sheet metal screws with hex head.

So simple, yet so great. Thanks for the tip..Will go pick some of those up here soon. Thats exactly what I was looking for.

I use a drill on mine as well. Main reason is that I can turn the clutch down to a very low setting and it sorta impacts the screw out. I use a drywall bit that fits in nice and tight. And then before it slips, the clutch kicks out and keeps you from screwing the philips head any more than it already is.
