Other Anyone else hate dragging their ski up on an aluminum beach stand?

Even though I own and sell scissor stands, I very rarely use them. The primary reason being that I hate the idea of dragging my hull across the stand. Some guys have covered theirs in carpet, others used turf. I don't think the carpet would stay and I think turf would be too grippy.

I recently aquired some 2" plastic tubing to re-cover my shop stands and as luck would have it, it fit the scissor stands perfect too.

What do you guys think? Will it be too slick and the ski will just slide off?

I think they are the perfect compliment to my stands so they are now a standard feature, while supplies last.

I made 10 sets but they are custom fit for the Big Tube stands I sell.

I tried a piece on my AC stand but the tubes are too small and it doesn't fit right so it looks like I will be selling my AC stand and replacing it with a big tube.

I love it on my shop stands, I did the small one over 8 years ago but it was short and didn't cover the ends very and I never had enough to do my big couch stand. Now they are both done and no more exposed corners to gouge my fiberglass.

I use PVC pipe and it works great, it is very slick, but not to much that it falls of, but it takes no effort to push the ski on it. My bigfoot has carpet on it now, and it it a B*tch to move, I am thinking of switching it out too

very cool. Wish it fit the AC stands though. I have been trying to think of something that would work well. I too figured turf would be too grippy.

Still, a bare aluminum stand versus rocks and sand is my preference.

You could glue a piece of turf at the end of the stand that would stop/hold the ski in place. So it would slide until it met the turf. My ghetto PVC stand is like that.

I've always ziptied carpet to the stands and sprayed the carpet with silicon from a spray can. Glides on and glides off piece of cake!
Our boat came off and on the trailer much easier after i sprayed the carpeted bunks with silicon.

The UHMWU is almost too slick though. I robbed the glide sticks off my truck rack when I built my enclosed trailer and rather than buy more, I cut up pieces of UHMWU I got from work and stuck them on. Now I have to be real careful of my back window but I can load skis by myself again.

I am about to replicate the wooden rack in the back of my truck out of aluminum and use the same tubing my beach stands are made from so that was the driver to get this piping in the first place.

I think that will slide off when its wet Boyer, I use hydroturf on mine....protects the hull and the ski stays where you put it.

I used to do the thin berber type carpet with zipties, but like turf better now. I just leave a little turf(about 1") hang off each end of the tubes cut nice and round for protection. Turf works great...

This stuff is not a hard plastic like pvc, its actually quite soft but durable and is labelled HDPE. It feels just like UHMWU but only in the form of tubing.

It is used for fiber optic telecommunication conduit and is UV stable.

your idea will work very good except if the shore is steep and then it will want to slide back off...that's the case with pvc on mine...but it is way better because the much less effort to slide it up the stand...also it's not often you have a steep shoreline...
