Anyone ride BMX. Looking to pick up a 24" cruiser for the winter

Been away from the BMX tracks for about 18 years. Just turned 30 this August and there is a new indoor BMX facility about 2 miles from my house. A few of us are going to pick up some 24" bikes and give it a go.

They sell Redline at that track, which is actually what I raced when I was young. Anyone have some input on a decent entry level bike? Looking to keep it around $400 or less. The Redlines at the place seem to be priced pretty well and comes with $50 track credit so I'll prolly end up going with one of those.

I haven't raced(or freestyled) for almost 30yrs but loved my PK Ripper on the track and ramps, and my Quadangle was a great bike, and was always thinking of moving up to the Floval flyer to bomb around with the kids. I'm an SE racing guy though.

If you're not a big guy and can still feel comfortable on a 20 inch, I'd try one on the track before jumping up to a 24. For me it just seems like timing the jumps and the overall control of a cruiser is nothing like a standard 20". Check out www.danscomp.com for a few bikes near your budget.

I rode a few laps on a friends 24" and it felt ok. I ride a fair amount of mountain bike and still ride MX so I think the 24" will be an easier transition for me. That and we're all 30+ so we want to be able to race the old guy class on a 24

Redline cruiser should be fine. Check prices at J & R, they do decent specials occasionally. Man your lucky having an indoor track. There are none in New Zealand and only one (just built) in Aussie. Post some picts of the track if possible.

I looked around on The House, but didn't really see anything that caught my eye in race trim.
This has been put on hold for a bit as I had to dump some unexpected cash into my duck hunting rig this fall.

Granted i ride all freestyle, I'm 6'3 and still ride 20". I have tried to ride 24" and even had a chance to ride around on a 22" and both felt like MTBs. Ill stick with the 20" and just keep going to woodward. I landed my first backflip at 28Yr old 2 years ago. haven't been able to ride this year due to back injuries from MX.

Oh and ALBES.com is far better than dans comp

Well I've made it to two open practice nights. So far I like the bike but it's definitely going to take some time to get comfortable again. That and I need to get my legs back into shape. I'm shot after about 5 laps right now haha.

I would like to try a 20" one of these night just to compare.

I'm trying to get back into bmx as well. I always thought racing was lame, but the level of riding some of these guys are at now is pretty incredible. I thought about getting a 24" as well, but they just don't compare to a 20". If i get some extra cash, I'd love to get a 24" just to try out racing and start in an easier class. It's unreal how all the talent you've ever had can completely disappear after being off a bike for 10 years. It makes me cry lol.
