anyone running the ADA big bore set up?

I am looking at building the 88mm (seaDoo piston) 5 mil stroke set up with billet cylender offered by ADA Racing.
Has anyone on here tried this set up? If so please let me know your thoughts and experiences as far as power and reliability.

PM Crammit442. He's been running that setup for a while and seems pretty happy with it.

I'm running a 6mil/ADA Xscream motor, b pipe, dual xs 46's, TL on avgas. . Love the power, very smooth from first hit & pulls hard all the way up. Great surf motor becuase of how smooth the power is! I can this motor my sewing machine its so smooth.

I have heard ALOT of good about the XS motor. But for long term costs reasons and more bang for the $ I am going with this set up from ADA.
I have run the Tim Judge ported Flat top (85 thru 86.6mm) for about 4 seasons and its on its last bore. Nothing bothered me more than paying $190 per piston on top end jobs with that motor. But I loved the light switch power.
This way I get a stroker crank and 88mm bore for less than the cost of the XS top end only and pistons are half the price.
I run TL and 48mm FS carbs and am hoping I retain some of the light switch effect as well as a good pull throughout with the ADA set up.
Most peeps I know of or have read about using this ADA set up had Art at Jetworks build them????? Dunno why, but mine should be a simple build, bore for sleves, deck, port and bore and done.
My biggest question is porting and dome size since I have never run 88mm bore I am not sure what differences the will be.

If your looking for a light switch hit gotta go with PV's. I mean my ADA hits like a mother fK, but PV's would make it insane.

I think the ADA cylinder kit requires a lot of porting a machine work. I remember last year I priced building one & the cylinder kit was $1500 & the machining & porting was another $1500, plus stroker crank & case work.

Art builds a lot of these ADA motors, My buddy JC was telling me about some of them up in Canada.

Biggest bang for the buck is XS1000! Once you go that big you can't want anything else. LOL I'm putting it in my surf/flatwater ski.

If you come down to Daytona you can checkout my ADA set up, just look for the Orange & Blue LPW flagship!

My buddy Lucas has a 6mil/Billet Dasa 930cc ready to go. Bottom end has 1/2 season, top end is fresh. PV, Stroker, Bigbore! Oh ya baby!

If I had to pay Art or someone like that for the machine work I would agree with you on the overall costs of the XS vrs. the ADA. And I would definately go XS in that situation. But the machine work is nothing I am concerned with. I got smart friends with mad skilz. So the costs brek down like this for me.
$1500 Billet, Big Bore top end (includes "o" rings and base gasket and ALL HARDWARE)
$700 crank
$200 (total) for SeaDoo pistons. (vrs $180 a pc. for the XS replacements)

Machine work is cheap and easy really. Porting will be the most time consuming.

With the XS you get great power but in the $3k package you do NOT get a crank and you are stuck buying ONLY thier pistons every year for your top end rebuilds and they are HIGH $. I have been there with the R&D pistons for the last 4 years and dont want to go back to that.

I need cheap to maintain reliable power. The added expense of powervalves doesnt excite me either.

I know the XS is THE ABSOLUTE BEST thing going for mad power and it is an incredibly gorgeous set up too, but for what I do I want the old simple, easy and cheap to rebuild set up.

It wont be the best but hopefully close and reliable long term.

Here are my views on the ADA big bore set up.

Well i guess i'll chime in .

Motor :

I'm very excited about my Jet works 951 . I truly believe this motor strikes the balance with power, simplicity, and integrity . All the parts on this motor are off the shelf nothing is made special . No power valves , no special pistons , Kaw rods , Mod b pipe , ADA head with regular ADA domes. I love this approach to motor building (very easy for the end user ). The build was free ride build very conservative with 185 psi . The porting was aggressive but not extreme . Certainly enough to make a very powerful predictable ski . All in all a fantastic platform with room to grow. Add a little more aggressive porting , full race gas and compression and stand by . Will it stomp all the other builders in the 1000 cc class ? I could not tell you and neither could they. The devil is in the details and it is impossible to compare apples to apples as every set up is different . Everyone knows a little here a little there makes the whole package . I'll just say working with Art has been a pleasure and i'm completely satisfied with all the aspects of this his motor , set up and service . I drank his crazy Mexican kool-aid and he's the horse I'm betting on.

Set up :

Real easy... just set every thing the way Art says to . Everyone knows how finicky Black jack carbs are right . Art selected the pop off, jets etc. we set the high and low speed x turns and .........that was it . 8 tanks and I have not touched them . The prop he selected was almost perfect , he did have to tweak it a little. Of course I'll keep playing around with the pipe screws and nozzle just to see (cuz... that's what we do ) even tho they seem to run out best ... where he told me to set them.

Thanks to :

I owe Crammit big time . He help me out immensely . Many late night phone sessions and even showed his hospitality by inviting me to his home for marathon sessions in the sensory depravation chamber ( his shop). Last , but not least our very own Gill , just for being a shoulder to lean on . you just call out my name.... and you know where ever i am.... O so sappy

i'm in the Atlanta area and don't mind test rides . if anyone would like to try it out we can arrange it you can decide for your self.

Art is deffinately the shiznit on set ups. He has done his homework for sure.
I take a little pride though in my own and my local 615 boyz R&D. While it will not be the simple set it the way Art says and go, it will be a challenge and part of the thrill to set it up and do some R&D ourself (and save some $$$ too). I only hope I get close to what Art's efforts have achieved for you and Crammit and many others.

Thanks for your input. If Art chooses this setup as his platform then there must be a reason right.

I think that having Art or Chuckey build something for you is deffinately trustworthy and as reliable as a MAD MOD set up can be. But like I said, cash and the challenge of doing some R&D and assembly myself and with some friends is part of what I like about this sport. I will let ya know how it turns out. SOOOOOO ya wouldnt wanna let me disect that top end for a minute would ya LOL.

Kevin,

That mirrors my experience with Art as well.
It's nice that I don't have to figure out any tuning by myself. I go with what he says and end up with a more powerful setup less complicated and less expensive than some others.
