Hi,
On my hull Sergio made it with rear engine mounts and also two chooses for mounting the pump. When I original assembled the ski from a SJ doner I just used the standard location.

Has anyone rear set the engine?
With the pump what about pump shoe? (I'm purchasing a mag pump for next year.)
Does this make it easer to back flip?
What about the coupler and drive shaft length?

Any conversation on this would be helpful.

Thanks, lou

I have mine in the setback position. Jeckert could probably tell you more since I bought the hull from him. But because he ran his that way I just needed a modified midshaft and an extension for the steering cable to convert my superjet parts.. I know the ride plate is cut to fit the shoe. If you need specific pictures of anything let me know.

I have yet to flip it but I am getting close, but don't know how it compares to the non-setback.

I have the xft trim, and his thicker steering cable. To extent either I just thread the id. of a 2 inch collar and add stainless steel thread rod , the correct thread diameter.

Do you know where the mid shaft came from or did you get one made?

Is the pump in the standard position.?

Thanks for your input.

The midshaft I believe is a stocker. It appeared to have some material taken off so that the shaft could be pressed the 2inches back in the midshaft bearings. Joe had had that machined and gave it to me with the hull, but it looked to be a pretty simple machining job.

The pump in my case is at the back mounts which is why I still could use a stock drive shaft and needed the extender for the steering cable. The pump hangs a few inches out the back now. Basically the whole drive train is just 2 inches back.

Thanks for your time here.

I took a look at my pump location. Its forward and the pump seal is up against the hull. This hull has the bolt pattern to move the pump toward the rear of the ski 2 inches. This sounds like how yours is. How do you "add" two inces in the front of the pump?

thanks, Lou

The engine will just move back and I'll relocate the TL board.
The mid shaft length -shorten- not a worry at this time Mark 44 has a machine shop connections.
When the pump goes to the rear of the ski there is a space issue for the pump seal, like two inch gap. BTW the pic of no pump the bolts aren't placed correctly.

How is your pump taking up the at space?

Thanks Lou

It may require an custom driveshaft, but you could do the 'poor man's setback pump' by adding a wear ring in front of your existing wear ring. I think it gives you 3". But then you have to move the rear most mounting holes towards the front. Maybe section a wear ring down?

I always complicate this stuff lol... Don't listen to me.

Good insight, If tryed to contact Sergio no answer yet. There has to be some one who c.a.d. a spacer. one thing I cant add any mounting inserts to the hull. This is all prep work before ordering a mag for x mass.

My pump shoe sticks out 2 inches farther and the ride plate is notched. The midshaft being pushed in the bearings farther and the engine back makes it so no special shaft is needed. I think you need a different shoe and intake grate.

Here is a picture from my phone and a version I outlined and labeled.

Sergio emailed, saying a short hull is a factor also which this set up will not have.
Anyone have a xft or similar "standard" hull with rear set engine /pump for flat water, that can tell me the difference in handling, thanks.

i had the drivetrain in the normal position on my xft. it would bring the nose up easy. if you moved it all back it would pop up that much easier for flips n things. xft made a pump shoe reg and extended. xft is the only ski I've seen that has 5mm inserts for pump shoe, makes it easy to switch. get a 2'' billet piece cut and try it out.

Thanks for the insight.
Steve over hear machined a " pump shoe"
And I got the mid shaft shorten .
We made first attempt ...
I just decides to go Solas mag pump .
Bump the timing , compression .

Buy a SXR for weight training !

And ride it as it is . Maybe a BOB gen > 3.
