Surfriding Avoid sinking and loosing the ski! Brainstorm...

Just got myself a new toy, rickter edge fr with a 950 dasa and needless to say, im scared poopless of sinking it. Apart from keeping it it wellmaintained ive been thinking what other safety precautions (and no scuppers) can be made in case one day im outta luck.

So lets say poop hits the fan for whatever reason and the ski fills up with water. What would work here would be that it would atleast stay somewhat afloat until someone can tow you in or it washes up on shore.

Been toying with the idea of getting a Throwraft TheSurvivor and either carry on the back like a backpack or fixed to a belt. Then you can quickly attach it to the ski somehow with a hook. Dunno?

Or maybe even fixed to the hood somehow?

It inflates by pulling a cord. Like a bouyancy device for the ski incase things turn super ugly?

Any ideas on this?

I have been toying with a similar concept. Lost a ski back in the day. I have been thinking of something in the line of a vehicle tyre inner tube with a carbon dioxide cylinder or 3. It can fold up really small and sit in the tray next to your limit strap mount.

If your ski is foamed in the tray and the foam is dry. Your ski is not going to sink.

My XFR's hood popped off and it was sinking in seconds. It would have ended up at the bottom of the river it if wasn't for the heroic efforts of my buds looking out for me. I couldn't hold it up by myself, it was pulling me under. My OEM hood latch wasn't great, and I didn't have hood straps. I only got it working a few days prior and it was in it's inaugural run.

Don't think for a second that these aftermarket skis won't sink. They will if they fill up with water. No amount of pool noodles will provide enough buoyancy either.

Exactly. Just the shear volume of water in the engine bay will make it drop like a rock when it fills up.

Just to entertain the thought; looking at the image i posted of the raft. Where would be a good spot to carry it? Around your waist? Or in the front part of the tray?

And how would it attach to the boat for maximum bouyancy? Maybe nose eye?

You think that would be enough bouyancy? And where would you mount it to once inflated.

But wasnt that more of a bouy to help you spot it once it already had sunken?
