B pipe question

You should use a griddle head. Great for cooking waffles, toast, and protecting cylinders.

I suggest Lodge.

if your cylinders are stock (non ported) you would be fine. If you get any porting you would need to step up to a girdled head......


I'll take bacon with those waffles.

What's so great about girdles? (other than looking upskirts to see them)

Why not get a non-girdled aftermarket head?

They sandwich the cylinder between the head and case. With the pipe mounted on the side of the cylinder causes alot of stress which cracks the cylinders. Girdled heads relieves the stress.

Did somebody say waffles!?!?

I think this is going in the wrong direction here.

The main stress that a stock 61x cylinder with a non-girdled head has to endure is a pipe mounted to the head, such as aftermarket drypipes, or the Blaster mod chamber.
If you run those types of pipes, a girdled head is mandatory.
The stress is said not to be so bad with a non-head mounted pipe, such as a B-Pipe. But, I have seen a cylinder crack with a B-Pipe and non-girdled Pro-Tec head.
You can buy a half-girdle kit from Pro-Tec to allow you to run a stock head and girdle it.

Anyways, that's what I read on the Intarweb.

Dangit I just got a non-griddled waffle head. Oh well now I'll have an excuse for a new motor after next year.
 
i didnt run a griddle head with my aftermarket cylinders and now my pistons are toast.

I agree, I have personally had a cyl crack and seen several other friends with cracked 61x cyls while running B pipes. Higher than stock compression, aftermarket pipes, added vibration seem to all be factors. I would suggest spending the extra bucks on the girdled head if you are going to do any kind of engine mods.

Well then why do they even make non-girdled aftermarket heads?

Anyone think it would help if you somehow supported the b-pipe with some high density rubber(like an old coupler dampener or something)?

They make them for engine builders like me when I use lamey PV cylinders and I don't want the extra weight of a girdled head when it's not needed. Need to save weight everywhere I can...

Hey I just bought a B pipe for my 2004 superjet. The engine is completely stock. I'm wondering if I can use my stock head or if I should buy a girdle head. Any info. would be sweet! Thank you

Why use the stock pipe, if you already have the B-pipe???

The stock cylinder head is ok, but a girdled head is a good upgrade. It's a must if you are going to have the cylinder ported.
