A dealer had a new '16 on the floor that they put some 0 degree Blowsion bars on. They seemed a bit wide for my tastes. Being pretty new to the stand-up thing I wondered if the wider bars are preferred by most?
I cut my riser bars down to match my straight bar width, but then realized that I cut them to much to fit a grip, trim lever, and start/stop switch on one side with the riser bends; everything fit on my straight bars since I wasn't dealing with the riser bend. lesson learned the hard way.
Most A/M bars are wider than stock. It's a personal preference thing - i'm broad across the shoulders and like 'em wider than anybody I know. A bonus is I've got space to spare for various ancillary fittings
For anybody who's interested, I found Star Bars were the widest I could get. I didn't shorten them at all and they're perfect for me.
