Freestyle Best Engine Size for Rickter FS-2 Evo 1

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some advice regarding the best engine size for a Rickter FS-2 Evo. My real criteria is to be able to do a flat water back-flip using a small wake and a jet trim system. I'm around 190lbs and 5'11". I've been advised that a DASA 850 cc will be sufficient but do not want to be overpowered. I'm against the 1100cc as this could not be bored if I had a failure.

Reliability is also important.

Thanks in advance.

1100 can be bored, Im about the same size. FR2 Evo 1 I have currently. If you have trim and a good size wake or surf you should be fine with most motors. After that it becomes time and skill. it is not a given to do a BF off a .5 meter wave with an 1100 in a 50 lb hull. Skill is a huge factor. If you are mainly concerned with FW BF an XFS is more in line and with an 850 and much practice you can get a few under your belt. I also have an 1100 in a KDX Xscream hull with TL and mag pump, etc. Havent FWBF it yet but have only ridden it once

Thanks for the reply. I can get a 950cc DASA for 1,500 bucks more. Do you think I should go down this route. I understand the XFS is much shorter and is different riding experience to the FR and FS skis? I also like to cruise around and explore places with my ski. Thanks in advance, your advice is much appreciated.

Your asking the wrong guy, lol I have a 971 DASA in my surf Evo and an 1100 DASA in my FW ski so I think go big or go home, but hp is no match for skills. I have seen Chris on here FW BF a -2" Wamiltons SJ with a 760. The only ski I have ever FW BF had a 1200 in it. IMO you are better off to start small and learn the skills then work up. Dont forget one major fact, are you building yourself or having a pro build and tune for you? If you are building yourself and are asking these types of questions most likely you will leave a bunch of undiscovered power in the ski. Pros can tune a 900 to rip better than a lot of 1100 or even 1200's

I have a XFR with a DASA 850 and a dry pipe. Yes it can be Flatwater Backfliped. But I does not rec. ride very well.

If you want to Flatwater back flip and go out for a cruise and explore, IMO you are going to need 2 hulls. The XFR is very unstable at speed and requires a lot of body english to keep it up right at speed. Hense the reason I bought a FR2 Evo 1. Not together yet but have rode Performance1's EVO.

Don't necessarily need two hulls. A Superfreak Badass with large enough motor, B-Pipe so you can get the stock tank in there and bam! Perfectly able to rec-ride and flatwater flip.

Agreed. If I do it all over again Jetmaniacs personal ski is the way to do it. Strong enough, light enough, and reliable enough.

I have a Rickter FR2 which is a bit heavier than the FS2, Has a dasa 850, mag pump with a 10/16 hooker and it will not f.w.b.f. It just does not go high enough so it always hits the nose on rotation but with a good boat wake it works. On the plus side the ski is absolutely awesome and I love it enough that I'm selling my my BOB gen 2 that will f.w.b.f.

I also agree bigger the better, but I also say depending on your skill level a bigger motor will only slow your progress because it will kick your butt every day!
