Best paint for bottom deck

Did a search and came up with a bunch of 5 year old threads discussing rattle can. But I suck at using the search function so it could be user error.

What's the best paint for the bottom deck?

At the moment I all I have is an big air compressor and sand paper. So i'll be buying a Harbor Freight paint gun and all the supplies (primer, paint, reducer etc etc)

Currently i'm considering single stage, or possibly a base/ clear.

If you have the information and successful experience, i'd really appreciate info on brands or part numbers on what you've used.

Did clear coat on the bottom of my ski and it all came off after about a season. Could have possibly been from poor prep but I doubt it since the top deck has been perfect with no issues.

You "can" (sorry), but it's less expensive to buy the little can (quart I think) at lowes or home depot. The brand is Rustoleum. HD also carries some boat primer and paint in the rustoleum brand as well. I was going to try that stuff next...but we've had success with the appliance epoxy out of the can so far.

Thanks for the clarification. How are you applying the material out of quart can? A gun or a brush? (I honestly didn't know you could buy it by the quart.)

So you're aware, this will be on a aftermarket Carbon/ Kevlar ski that i've reinforced with carbon and added some minor resin based filler for any pin holes etc. So whatever I lay down will be going over: Existing Clear/ Paint (roughed up for adhesion), Carbon, Filler, and possibly some Kevlar.

That's a lot to ask of paint with no primer. Also, I want it to look professional. I don't mind appliance epoxy on a old Superjet... but i'm not sure its the way I want to go.

I hear you. Paintbrush, sand, repeat for an old warhorse. For your nice application, you could experiment with thinning it out and spraying with a gun. You might have to clean your nozzle a few times until you get it right. At this point I'm out of ideas. Blowsion has a good write up on hull painting, but they say leave the bottom roughed up for better handling so that's no help there. BTW, you're in my hometown, although I'm sure I wouldn't recognize it anymore.

Awesome, thanks.

I actually moved to Mansfield a few years ago. I'm just too lazy to change my thing hahaha.
