Best steering system for a RN?

I hate the UMI system. You can't get rid of the slop without really tightening the steering and the bearings are the worst design for salt water (duh). I bought teflon washers to eliminate the race bearing but the main bearing is still part of the system. Stock systems are better IMO except except they are too long.
Any thoughts on aftermarket systems that do NOT use bearings? I see Bruin sells a kit but I will need buy straight bars. Looks like the same for the x-metal system.
I want a steering system with zero slop but butter smooth turning.

That looks like a standard UMI set up to me...other than the turn plate and bars and nut of course.

But that UMI bearing set up corrodes and gets funky really fast IMO.

Every person I have known seems to have problems with the UMI system, but I have zero problems.

I have yet to get any slop from the nut loosening, and it turns like butter.

Any time I dissemble it I clean the post threads with brake cleaner, I use a brand new nut, and use red loctite.

Has yet to fail me.

Combine it with the JSS tuff-stuff thrust washers, and you have a great system.

I run the teflon system that JSS sells. RMBCFreeride use to make these for JSS. Great setup. Still use the bearing that goes inside the cap, but that bearing cost, what $5.00 or so at a bearing supply house?

No issues, I have even had one freeze up and it still worked just fine.

I've been running the same UMI set up for at least 6 years. I do use an XMW short plate and straight bars, but with the UMI bearing.
