Surfriding Best way to heat up my engine... can't find what I'm looking for on McMaster

So my engine runs way too cool. I ride 95% in the California surf. Water coming out of the bypass fittings is only warm... maybe 70-80 degrees.

I have 1/2" ID cooling coming from the pump, 1/2" ID through the bulkhead, and 1/2" ID on my manifold. Running dual cooling.

I want to restrict the water within the engine compartment as doing anything down in the pump area on my FR2 is close to impossible.

I am looking for a reducer that has an outer diameter of 1/2" and an inner diameter of 3/8". I can't seem to find what I am looking for on McMaster.

Can someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks!

Call up Art and ask for his Quick Disconnect restrictors (includes three different size inserts)

The restrictors should be placed between head outlet and pisser. Are you running 1/2" lines there as well?

I just took a 32 caliber lead bullet and drilled a hole through it.
32 caliber fits right into the pisser
that way you can fine tune temps by drilling various sized holes

No I am not. I have 3/8" coming off the head...

I just figured I needed to lessen the water going into the engine. I just got off the phone with Art. He said he is re designing those quick disconnect restrictors. Said they will be available at the end of the month.

Also talked to him about the extreme bottom end lag I can't seem to get rid of. He thinks it might be the 9/15 hooker.

You need to restrict water leaving the motor, not entering. If you slow down the flow out, it will ensure the cooling jackets are always full but still heat up the motor. If you restrict at the inlet, you might starve the motor for coolant.

Yup. makes sense. What I was originally trying to achieve was the same amount of water my engine had flowing through it when it was in the SJ hull, which was 3/8".

Home Depot or Lowe's - PEX tubing 1/2"--3/8" couplings would work great. Plumbing section with the other PEX fittings.

But as mentioned, it's best to restrict after the engine so you have higher pressure in the engine to help prevent any localized boiling that could occur.

I honestly don't think it is. The carb is dialed in very well (we spent some time a few weekends ago doing that when the surf was tiny).

It feels like there is just too much water for the prop to initially spin up, but once it breaks free after like 1/2 second its fine and feels great through the rest of the power band.

mine never had those issues. straaaange.

Ummm... you also have a 145 mag... haha

Drivetrain felt fine when it was in the SJ, but I think maybe the larger pump shoe/intake track in the FR2 is loading it up more?

I also want to switch to a less aggressive scoop grate (more for sliding/slashing) but that may help also. But one thing at a time. I'm gonna look for a deal on a intake grate at WF, and then go from there.
