Custom/Hybrid Better Superfreak hood hook option

This is a porto type of a hood hook delete option Mcdog and I are / might try . Thanks to Mike 345 for milling it out. My last several AM hoods all were a TOTAL pain in the ASS to adjust. Using a Brap strap You can not help putting more force on the rear part of the seal and potentially raising it in the rear. With this set up you are putting force straight down on the front of the seal then tightening the rear. Not sure which system will be better the phenolic knob or cam lever quick release . LET THE BASHING BEGIN !

Hows this work? I know it squeezes down the front of the hood- but does the silver bracket bolt to the hood? I think the lever latch would be better than the knob. But Post some more pics, and x2 on a price!

The billet bracket bolts to the hood. There is a bolt mounted to the hull. The hood piece slides on the bolt when you put the hood on and then the knob tightens the hood piece down to the hull.

Nice. Although I wonder about it mounting on two points vs. three like stock. Like will it flex on impacts enough to open one side enough to gush a little water momentarily?

IMO a three contact point 'reverse fulcrum'(?) type or adjustable hood side brackets are really all that's needed.

Just my quick thoughts, take from them as you'd like.

Plenty of people don't even run front hood hooks on freaks with no problems. Installing hood hooks is a huge pita because you cannot get to them with the way the hood is designed. I think this is a happy medium between the two options.

Bracket attaches to the hood . Plan on using three locations for even dispersion. There is a void between the liner and hood . This void will HAVE to be filled with epoxy and Cab . If you don't do that it will crush the liner ( I did this on Tem's other AM hood and It worked great ). Basically you drill your holes tape the back side and inject the filler in the hole letting it level out inside ..... real easy and Berky approved .We used a 3/8 inch angle it's probably to beefy ,but it will be monkey strong. You have to use thick stock due to the compound angle at the hood and flat surface of the pole area. We had to mill the back side into a wedge shape (thinner at the bottom by 5 mm ) to make it come out level over the handle pole area . Might be able to use something thinner like 1/4.

Have no idea about price .... let's see if it works first .

Like the thinking but you definately need to double up and have a 'tightener' on each side for strength and adjustability.

I like the bike style.

I'm not worried about strength , the forks are 3/8 thick and the thinnest part of the bracket is 3/16 at the bottom. Having a fork on each side was a consideration ,but the span across the hood gap is only 6 3/4 . Also remember the hood straps go in the far corners. Would you really benefit with a 4 inch space between the two ?.... I like the cam lever as well , just need to find one with a captive base . As far as adjustability you will need to set your jam nuts on the stud coming up from the bottom so you tighten down to the same point every time . Another consideration was putting a set of Lawyers lips on the edge of the forks so the hood could not slide out ( just like Bike forks ) .

Need to make a few adjustments . The over bracket will be shorter by 1/4 inch to add more clearance for the handle pole and the angle on back will need to be a few degrees steeper for better fit . I stand corrected , the hood / liner will not have to be filled on the bad ass hoods . Berky made some changes that cover that area of the install. Over all I think it will work well for super freak owners .
