blaster rear sponsons

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but SoCal you are wrong. You might not like it since you do more free riding, but sponsons on a blaster do make a HUGE difference from stock handling.

Give it a try you might like it, or you might not. But i promise you will notice a difference on how the ski handles. I would recommend it as a must have mod.

yeh guys but be fair, not every sponson works the same : )

personally the sxr style will hook better but it will also lighten the rear end so it can slide out easier if your not prepared for it.

if your blaster is not running in the 50 + mph range don't bother with it.

sponsons

I made a set for mine and they made a huge difference. The single biggest handling improvement I've made to my ski. Way to tight for surf riding but if you want to tear up a buoy course or skinny creeks like I ride they are like being on rails. My ski is more for top speed.

we'll just agree to disagree...and fwiw...i never used to freeride...all i did was bouy courses. and i never let up on the throttle at all on the course and never slid out....maybe you just arent pushing hard enough on the outside corner:swordfight:

Or your ski is too slow to spin out. :)

Right back at you :swordfight:

I rode for years without rear sponsons and tried a few different versions. Some make a dramatic difference in terms of handling, some not much at all.

lol Why would you bring a sword to a tank fight?? lol j/k

SoCal, it sounds like you have been riding blasters long enough to know. I have only been riding a blaster for almost a year now. But after riding skis with rear sponsons, and mine with front sponsons, there is a difference on how these things handle.

I really think anyone can ride a blaster wide open on any runabout course when it smooth, but can you do that in the back of the pack when its rougher than heck, or really tight and technical?

To answer the original posters question, throw some sponsons on your ski and see if you like it.:Banane35:

this is true. riding my stock blaster with just an intake grate and ride plate i was pretty happy with how well it stayed hooked up. after adding the head, pipe, and carbs it would spin out way more often.

true...

my ski was stock but i was still handing the modded skis there ass on the bouy course. i would end up in the rear with the gear, but would pass almost everyone within 5 laps. once i added the pipe and stuff it slid out all the time, but still doesnt change the fact that the guys that have been riding alot longer than me were getting passed by my stock (other than ride plate and intake grate) ski.

So which do you like better? Sounds like you might be opting for the rears next season?

right now im making a set of rear sponsons for my chicks blaster. To be honest, havent dont much testing on handling so now that i have another one, i am going to try different set ups. I gots all winter.

Hey SoCal, next time we are @ fiesta this winter, you should come down and ride with us. Its always nice to have another blaster rider out there. Maybe we can convince you to sign up for spec next year.

Would love to ride your blaster one of these days Masher. I've never ridden one with sponsons, so I can't comment either way. Would be nice to know if I should actually get my sponson'd hull running. :)

I think my non-sponson hull hooks up pretty good. Would be pretty cool if it was even better with sponsons.

I dont like the sxr style sponsons on the out side rail .
I just built 3 sets in different lengths on the inside (hull ) bond rail .
They work good just finding the length i like now !!

the only one ive ridden is the rail mounted style...

and masher makes a good point with the whole ski sliding out with more power, maybe sponsons will help, i dont know. but i do know i didnt need them to keep up with the modded skis when my ski was stock

scotts inside rail sponson setup is alot of fun to ride, even in surf,I could still flat spin slide the boat into wave faces, but lean turning it felt like a track rail, surf riding it down the wave face you could put alot of pressure on the inside rail and track it straight down the line. in a blind test I could tell in 5 secs, totally different
