Boat in camping using only stand up skis?

I'm curious about planning a boat in camping trip next spring and wanted your thoughts on how to best do it using only stand up skis. I don't have access to a boat, don't have any desire to buy one, and renting one would cost more than I would want to spend on a camping trip. Im pretty determined to do it using only stand up skis. Have any of you done it before? The place I'd like to do it at is called kingfisher island boat in campground on flaming gorge reservoir in Utah. There is a ramp 3 miles away so i plan to just keep a bunch of gas cans filled up and parked with the car. When we need to refill i will head over there. Obviously all of our gear will be backpacking gear. The one thing I am trying to figure out a creative solution for is bringing a cooler. I have a water filter and could drink out of the lake, but quite honestly, i'd like to figure out a way to have some cold flavored drinks on hand. What do you guys think? any other issues I should consider that I'm not thinking about?

Get an old couch, gut it, store everything inside it and tow it to the camp site. Could also tow a blow up raft, canoe, inner tube etc etc

That's not a bad idea, assuming I would also be towing gas with me. Otherwise I think I would burn through too much gas towing something. I have a 6mile round trip between fill ups and that's without even going out for a joy ride. I've gone 15 miles before on a tank, but just barely made it without running out of gas. I don't know how my gas usage would be affected towing something

Why not just give a dude with a boat at the ramp $20 to haul your crap to the campsite and be done?
There are only 8 sites available on the island, and I plan to fill all of them up lol. It would probably be easy to catch a ride to the island, but flagging one down when its time to leave might pose some difficulty. Plus I really want to make this work using just stand ups. Where there is a will, there is a way. If I have to sacrifice some things that's ok, but this community is full of creative geniuses that I know can come up with some things to make this experience a little more hassle free :)

Catching a boat like mentioned would probably be the easiest...

Quinc's ideas could work too, the canoe would offer the least resistance to towing I would imagine....

I carry a 5 gallon can with me in my tray often and drop it on shore at my ride spot. You could ferry fuel cans that way and make a few trips, maybe make a saddle bag type thing to go over poll or engine cover, like for instance a long pillow case sown shut on the open end then slit open and hem an opening in the middle, fill both sides weighted evenly with gear, lay a towel or similar cloth on hood to protect it and lay the bag over your hood and push the poll down to hold it and ride on your knees and make a few trips. You can bungs cord a chair to your poll or a light tent, carry a back pack .....if you want some luxuries Towing something would be how I'd do it.....

Great idea Harbor! I think I might have to get some pillow fuel tanks. If I could strap one to my pole, and put another in the tray, I might only have to venture back to the car every 2 days, or make several trips the first day like you mentioned till they are all at camp. Thanks! For a chairs we will probably invest in some of these http://www.rei.com/product/829239/rei-flex-lite-chair because they pack up super small, like the size of a qdoba burrito. Kinda pricey but oh well. I think in the end towing something is going to be our only way of having cold beverages. a canoe is a good idea as long as its not too tippy. A kayak might work too I suppose. has anyone towed gear behind a stand up and if so what did you find worked best? anyone know of an ideal cooler to use in this situation?

On the ice chests, I might have a cooler in car with a few 20 pound bags of ice unopened, get a medium size ice chest and tie a loose rope around on handle to form a large loose long loop to go over your neck loosely and take the chest over empty.....

Have your drinks in your saddle bag brought over in a different trip then lastly bring the ice in your saddle bags and assemble at camp.

good idea, but I think between gas and fuel im looking at a days worth of trips back and forth lol. I guess some sort of tow behind cooler that could also hold a fuel jug or two would work. ill have to see whats out there for that.

With buying chairs, some sort of water trailer and all the fuel used making back and forth trips the price is adding up. What is the price for a pontoon boat for a few days? Have ya checked? Not trying to crush your dream here, just trying to be realistic so you and your buds have a good time.

wanderer its a valid point and to be honest I wasn't planning on buying a tow behind jet ski cooler an hour ago lol so you are right about things adding up to more than I had anticipated. its 240 per day for their small pontoon boat. I could get a smaller fishing boat for a tad less, but if I were going to rent a boat I would spend the extra 20 for the pontoon. However, my hope is that if this works out and I can make it pain free, this could turn into a yearly outing. If that is the case all of this is a one time investment and then future camping trips are free :)

edit: bloody hell these trailers are expensive. Finally got a price on one and they are almost a grand! dont think I will be going that route.

Yeah $240 is kinda steep. Are there any in your neighborhood? Maybe you could set something up with an owner for some dough he could take you and your gear out Friday and pick ya guys up on Sunday. Either way hope it works out for ya.

This is how I would try it....... you could put gas cans and everything in it. Just don't tow it to fast.

I have used a cheesy raft like this to tow a loaded beer cooler to the island behind my house....about a 1.5-2mile round trip. I used a 10' tow rope, went real slow and it worked fine. I have also towed a cooler that I strapped down to a SUP board the same way...lol
