Super Jet BOB Adjust. VS Regular + Re-Foam Worth it ?

I know some of this as been discussed before but I need to take a decision on my build for this winter. I have to re-foam my tray and wanted to do it using the blue faom. I was telling myself that while all this is opened up I might as well install BOB ajustable holds and transform my SN into somthing a bit different with the larger tray and everything. I have 3 main interrogations that I can't seem to answer even after searching for hours on forums

1- Excaclty how does BOB holds compare with normal (like WCS or Toby/615) ?? is the larger tray and adjustability really worth $250 more ?

2- I have absolutly no experience in composites, fiber etc. What materials I should use to do this kind of job ?

3- Considering I may uprage to an aftermarket hull in the a near future when my skills are enaugh to master the RN hull is all this trouble of re-faoming, bob holds etc really worth it ? Should I just only dry out the ski, install 615 holds, returf and be happy with this for now ? Or maybe the BOB holds will transform enaugh the SN so I'll want to hang on it for a liitle longer ?

Thanks in advance for any advice !

Make your own. I hated my bob holds. I hate to say it, I like the ski clinic and customer service, but I kick in way too hArd and it seems like the bob holds couldn't take it.

I want Bob, but only because I would be able to remove them for a wide tray when racing. I don't see an advantage to any kind of adjustable hold unless you want to do the same, or unless you share the ski with your brother or wife or something?

The wide tray is really nice. I can't say anything about the bob holds I have never tried them. Look at what the materials will cost to do the bob holds that might be another 50- 100 dollars?

i have bob holds on my rn.. i don't mind em because as mentioned earlier you can remove them, or if you share the ski... otherwise kind of pointless.. if you've never done any glass work before i wouldn't do them because you're better off building the tray yourself and throwing away what they come with... needless to say, if i ever do it again, i'll make my own, nothing against the ski clinic, i would just do things a bit different... also, if you already have plans to upgrade to an a/m, save the extra cash and put it towards that....

I really like bob holds in a sj.

Id say they're worth it. We easily made the tray 19.5" wide. And it's nice to be able to adjust and remove. They come from the clinic with the thick plush foam on em and it's a no brainer to put it underneath them also. So you end up with the softest holds possible. And trust me you WILL adjust them. I've done a couple sets of old school holds and unless you're a pro that's done it a thousand times and you know exactly where to put them and how much foam to use, you'll end up with holds that are either too loose, too tight, or too far forward or backwards. I promise. And you'll still love them, you'll just have to deal with it.

I bought the bob footholds, how much epoxy resin and hardener did you guys buy, and what glass and how much of it did you buy? and finally how many layers did you apply?
Cheers Ray

Why should you have to move your footholds down or up? You end up putting them where you want them and leaving them. I'd get conventional footholds and pad them to the right tightness and leave them. I'd get xscream footholds. My favorite.

Good question.

1. Different shoes. Thicker when it's cold, thin when it's warm. Or maybe you wear out or try something new one day.

2. Extra tight for when you're really given'r. Looser when just messing around that way you don't have to kick in as hard.

3. Less experienced riders don't know how tight they need their holds. They pad to some random thickness. After riding and deciding its either too tight or loose they are then required to tear off their turf job and re do it. I don't know anybody who likes turfing. Especially over and over again until they get it right.

4. I let other people ride my ski. My brother who has smaller feet. Friends with bigger feet. Two bolts and 20 seconds and boom. Perfect fit.

im thinking of putting these in my SN as im tall, with size 15 feet so i need a larger hold. i also need a much wider tray. the ones i have now arent bad, but i tried riding a xscream hold SJ and almost had zero room to get my knees on the tray when in the water. a wide tray would be amazing!

There are 2-3 guys who I ride with that had a hard time getting the BOB holds to seal, also they said they constantly move. So you spend time putting them back where they should be instead of riding.

It think its a cool idea, but this is feedback that I got while I was building my RN and trying to make the same decision. I agree that turfing and padding traditional holds is not easy.

I had a similar thread in Feb dicussing BOB holds vs RRP.

they said they constantly move.

Hmmm. That sucks. The three sets we have in our group dont move and seal fine. My first ride they did because I didn't tighten them lol. You really have to crank em tight obviously. I kick the chit outta mine too.

Its obviously all opinion/rider preference. I've heard plenty of guys saying freak holds are the best. Then you see someone putting bob holds on one

I personally like the BOB footholds, I replaced my screws with standard screws with linger threads and standard washer and once you tighten them they are set....

I put footrocket holds on my bob, I bent 16 bolts and broke 2 sets kicking in so hard. Threw my last good set in the corner just incase I ever sell my bob. Hell I broke my foot this year I had to kick in so hard on the bobs. After riding the tops of my feet were black and blue.
