Anyone have any tips or tricks they are using to work the underside of the bond rail? My B1 had bond rail damage which I have repaired. Doing the finishing work. It's pretty difficult to get in there with putty knives or for sanding. Also curious if anyone has any tips for when they spray primer and paint in areas like those.

Thanks

Just take it in steps, do as much as you can and walk away. If you have an area with some meat you need to really grind down, I have had great success with this sander from NT. You can move the belt at any angle to help you reach stuff. Its worth checking out! But defiantly get better belts for it...

I use carbide burrs from Fastenal on a 1/4" die grinder to get the meat. I have a 3/8" straight bur and one that kind of looks like a pine cone. They are like $50 each, but they never get dull or change shape if using strictly on fiberglass. I have an extended straight and a right angle grinder and use both.

That mini sander is a good suggestion. I'll have to see about getting one. Thanks.

I really like the oscillating multitools for oddball stuff but they aren't the easiest to use in grooves. You can get really narrow sander attachments for the oldschool "mouse"style sanders. Band files are excellent, and 90 degree die grinders are really helpful with burrs or rolock discs. Getting around tubbies though, the only thing I found was making wooden blocks and wrapping them in sandpaper, even then, it is crap work.

I do 3D print tools for stuff like that. Not sure if you have ever considered it, but it's nicer than wood. You can easily print a custom radius or a complexed curve. I used Fusion 360 and a XYZ Davinci Pro 1.0 printer.

long time ago I bought an adjustable sanding block, it is similar to a contour gauge , it has a bunch of plastic fingers, you unlock it, set the contour, lock it then put sandpaper on it, it duplicates any contour, no idea where you would find one now though

I don't know if I should give this a thumbs up for being good info or a thumbs down for telling me about something I can't have!

Would it be possible to post a pic of your sanding block?

I will see if I can find it , it would be fairly easy to replicate if you had a 3d printer, it's kinda like the Malco but the fingers are much thinner so it can produce much finer detail.
