Other Broken fibula recovery time

Broke my fibula riding 10 days ago. Finally went in and got a boot. Have to wear that for a month, total recovery time according to the doc is 3 months. Anyone ever have a similar injury? Broke my fibula about halfway up my shin. Hoping to ride in a month or so depending on x-ray's

Fractured my Tibia plateau at grayland last week. Wasn't used to how shallow it is and not used to the footholds on my new ski. I was kinda riding close and I was headed out to the back just going over white wash waves you know and I hit one and both feet came out of my holds and ski went out from under me and my legs hit bottom hard. I got surgery on Thursday with a plate and some screws that I'll keep forever. I can't put weight on it for 2 months so I won't be riding for about 3 months I'm guessing, luckily I only have a brace and not a cast.

In your case the fibula is not really a weight bearing bone so recovery is much quicker. Stoked for you recover quick and get back out there!! Brap life!

Dang dude. Glad you're alright. Yeah mine wasn't nearly that bad, took me a while to even go in to the doc. Was expecting it to be just a bad bruise but the X-ray displayed the true story. I'm in this stupid boot for a month, go back in July 11th for another X-ray. If the bone looks pretty good then, I might try riding passively with a shin guard. Built my new Krash 50 cal last fall, so far I've ridden it 5 times before this happened. I'm itching to get out there again. I get 4-5 months of riding in MN if I'm lucky. Too bad this happened at the peak of the season.

Studies have shown that stretching and working out your good leg will help strengthen your broken leg. There are also some steroids that will help shorten recovery time.

I did the lightly working out and stretching my good leg (wasn't able to get the doc to prescribe the meds..) and was able to get out of my cast 3 weeks early and start powerlifting again with no pain.

Spent the night with my foot in a bucket of ice water. Then the next morning my wife talked me into going to the doc.. I thought it was just a sprain.

I'll keep that in mind. By light working out, what types of exercises? Mine is about 1/2-3/4 of the way up my shin.

My physical therapist told me the same thing. I broke my right so I'll spend a lot of time stretching and strengthening my left leg. My doing that it gets the blood flow to both legs

You'll ride again soon, but it'll hurt for about 2 years. Be conscientious about it's impacts to your body dynamics as my experience with past injuries is compensentory patterns lead to new injuries. Even if they say no rehab, you should rehab, and rehab doesn't end when rehab ends. You need to be considering rehab for the next few years if not a lifetime.

Great point^^ I broke my right leg and jacked my left hip from walking with the cast and boot without crutches for a month...

I broke my tib/fib when I was 16 during a 3 wheeler accident (showing my age). My case was bad due to my tibula shattering and the bone stuck through my lower leg. I wasn't able to walk again for 6 months but you will be up and around much sooner. Being young still you will heal pretty quick.

Yeah I'm walking on it with a slight limp in the boot. It's been 11 days. Swelling is is down in my calf, so that's good. Trying not to get into the habit of limping/walking weird due to the injury. Keeping the boot on and it elevated as much as possible. I want to ride in mid July with a shin guard if my X-ray is ok.

Just got back on a ski after snapping my ankle and tearing 3 tendons. Did the boot for 6 weeks then once I got the ankle brace, I hit the water. Nothing crazy, but felt great to ride. Just take it easy and try to walk normal in the boot when you do walk.
