Blaster Building a waveblaster - advice please 701x vs 701t

Hey guys,

My 93 waveblaster b1 bit the dust at the end of last season with a bad starter, leaky rear seal, and scouring in the cylinders. I decided that since I'll be spending some time riding this in the ocean in the near future I am going to rebuild the ski from the ground up to make it 100% reliable. Not looking to get stuck in the surf anymore with a 20 year old ski.

It currently is bone stock with a 701x motor. I was going to have Atlantic Jet Sports in NJ rebuild mine but I've come across a 701t from a wave venture I will probably have rebuilt by them now. I understand that some of the later model b1's had the 701t anyway.

If I am going to rebuild the entire ski, what else would be different with a 701t setup compared to the 701x besides the carbs? Wiring, electrical box, hoses, top end, bottom end, hoses, motor mounts, anything? Remember that I'll be replacing any part that could cause possible breakdown. Basically making it a new ski (just love this blaster too much).

I'm more of a wave jumper and was going to put a pipe on it as well...any suggestions? I know the Factory B pipes aren't made anymore. I have one used in a box but I brought the ski back to stock. Maybe a factory Limited Pipe?

I found a good website called partforyamaha.com. They seem to be the cheapest Yamaha online parts seller.

Not looking to put in an 1100 or anything like that or crazy mods. I'm an amateur mechanic and would like to keep this as close to stock as possible so I can work on it easy and follow a manual. I think the twin carb and the pipe will give it enough kick plus a bilge to keep out pesky water when I nose dive.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Id go with the stock 96 Blaster 701. 62t dual carb cases with 61x cylinders. Waveventures are full 62t/62t cylinders and cases. A little less punchy on the bottom end but will still work fine.

Everything is almost the same. Electrical is basically the same but the 61x case stators are different than 62t. If you are going from a single carb 61x Blaster motor to a Waveventure 62t dual carb, I'd just swap in the electrical box with it.

Factory B-pipes are still available new and are highly recommended.

Not totally sure if I can get the 62 cases with 61 cylinders if getting rebuilt. Think I'm required to do a straight up core swap. I imagine that if I get a 1996 b1 owners manual I can just follow that I assume? I think that may be the year they had twin carbs but correct me if I'm wrong. So, I need new staters and a different electrical box.

Where can I get the b-pipe new? Factory pipe doesn't have any waveblaster pipes on their website.

Are you saying that the wave venture motor is weak on the bottom end?

wave blaster pipes are no longer available, You could go with a C4 chamber set up from rad dudes..but you will need all three peices.

-If you have not sent your engine off to atlantic jetsports yet, Then consider sending the venture 62t engine, along with your damaged 61x cylinder to JETMANIAC Chris, HE can have the engine built the suggested way and also throw some porting and massaging of the cylinder and cases. IT WILL BE WELL WORTH IT, she'll hit hard as nails, PM him hes not hard to find, he is more than helpful and will get you setup. Just my suggestion. Good Luck.. Link to the referenced engine work below..

Guys, thanks for your suggestions as always. I know there are several ways to get the most out of these two motors. I need to keep one motor intact as I am trading it to my brother. I also don't want to start mismatching parts in case I need to work on it myself. Would like to keep it as stock as possible. Just looking to do whatever is stock so I can read a manual outright and follow it if something goes wrong. If you could help to explain what that set up is that would be great. I did some searching and there seems to be a lot of confusion...but I found a thread that states this:

No I didn't. I just took the recommendation of pulling up the OEM diagrams.
#0's quick run down of the engine code and skis they came in is the starting point.
93 blaster had 61x cases, 61x cylinders, and 61x head. 96 blaster had 62t case, 61x cylinders, and a 64u head. Therfore, a 61X and a 64u head are interchangeable? I never got to what is the difference.

if there aren't any more blaster pipes new does anyone have any suggestions? Am I going used...or going for a different pipe altogether? Again, trying not to Frankenstein parts.

Thanks as always,

Joe

Any OEM 61x head will fit any OEM 61x cylinder. Any unmolested OEM 61x cylinder will fit any OEM unmolested 61x case, or a 62t case. 96 Blasters and Superjets came with the 61x cyl and 62t case paired with dual carbs... your really not FRANKENSTIENing anything. its all plug and play for the most part on the 701 stuff. the cranks are the same in the 701s and 650s. if you want to aviod confustion and "little" tuning, then get your stock 61x/61x repaired/rebuilt and go back to stock. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE STOCK 61X Cylinder on the 701 Engine... The headpipes will bolt on without any confusion.. Factory Bpipe systems for the blasters are NO LONGER made.. you will have to find the parts used. however the new alternative is the NYNJA C4 chamber and headpipe setup..
