300/440/550 Can anybody ID a PJS motor for me?

I came by this motor in a purchase of a dismantled Kawi 92 750SX - can anybody possibly ID it and tell me about the parts they see and what this might be worth? The carbs are Mikuni, but none like my untrained eyes have seen. The flywheel is obviously an aluminum lightened piece, I also have the original and cover as well.

i will give you $200 for it.

J/k i have no idea what it's worth. Looks cool though.

if your tearing it down you should be able to get decent money for the flywheel

That is most definitely a pjs motor, They made a few differnt versions. ONe that bolted onto 650 cases and ones that bolted onto 750 cases. From the looks of it those are 650 cases. Just a guess but you probably have a PJS800 engine.

The ignition system you see is a RAD total loss flywheel with a dynatek pickup and timing plate. Im not sure how those old ignitions worked, but i dont think they needed a brain or not. If you want to upgrade the ignition that flywheel is compatible with an MSD brain and pickups.

What its worth all depends on what the condition of the internals are. Pull the head off atleast and have a look

The person I bought the machine from said that he and his friend could never get the motor to run right after he had it built, I don't think this machine has ever really been run since it was put together. The pistons (from just looking into the spark plugs holes) look brand new, can still vividly see the stamped numbers on the tops.

PM Jammer on PWCToday. He will be interested and willing to help (and he knows a bit about PJS stuff too).

Try this guy. He sells PJS 800 kits like yours.

gordy30 (this is his ebay name)
Not really surf if gordy is a full service shop or not but he seems to know his old ski parts
I believe his shop is called Pacific Jetsports or something like that.
He seems to specialize in old stuff.

Took the head off last night, looks pretty clean, cylinders are not scored or damaged at all. Will take a few more pics if I get time.

Are those carbs worth using if I try to get this thing running? What particular Mikuni model/size are they?

Now that the heads off , whats the bore size?
79mm should be a 700 , bigger a 800 , both rated at 90hp.
Assuming that the stroke is 74mm.
I have pretty much the same engine top-end wise. A viper 9000 , 79mm bore , 74mm stroke but on a 550 style lower end.
In a 650SX with a single 38 and Coffman pipe , 155psi it would run with my buddys piped SXI.

Yes, those are BN round-body style Mikunis. Same carb as many 550's had on them. The cases do appear to be 650 cases by the bolt pattern, and they are probably clearanced for the PJS cylinder. Gordy @ PJS can definitely help you out, he has loads of NOS PJS parts, and has lots of PJS cylinders like yours. Good luck! -Kurt

I didn't have anything really accurate, just a ruler w/mm's on it - bore is roughly 79 or 80 mm from my quick measurement.

If I'm successful at getting the title updated (minor issues), I am thinking about watching out for a used 750 motor to stick in there to make the boat whole for sale. Then the motor will either be sold whole or in parts, depending on how much I want to jerk around with it.
