Other Can you take apart a yamaha 701 61x crankcase without removing the flywheel?

I've been trying for a few days now to remove my flywheel, it seems to be rusted on so tight no method of removal has worked for me so far.
I have a harmonic balancer puller that i think should work, but even with an impact wrench it isn't doing the trick. I've also been using spray penetrant for over a week to in hopes it would help.
"The fast-acting formula of 3-IN-ONE Professional High-Performance Penetrant loosens rusted or stuck parts, and works to remove grease and grime from a variety of surfaces. It also helps prevent rust and corrosion." At 3$ a can I'd expect it to work wonders!

Has anyone had success with harmonic pullers in the past, or am I using the wrong tool for the job?

I've found some scary looking dents and scratches visible through the crank below one piston, so I would really like to get a better look down there as soon as possible
Can I remove the 701 61x crankcase without first removing the flywheel? My Fx1\superjet service manual says it should come off first.

I belive the stator is screwed to the top and bottom case halves. So you would have to remove that after the flywheel. One of mine was stuck pretty good. I sprayed it real good then left the puller tightened on over night. Came back the next moring and it broke free overnight.

Thanks for the heads up, I figured there would be something that prevented it. I had the same idea but it didn't work for me unfortunately.
It's even ripped the threads off a couple of the bolts I was using to anchor the puller, so its really on there!
If I applied heat to the flywheel would I risk damaging anything?

Can't do it. Stator needs to be removed.
Thanks

Use a harmonic balancer puller. Tighten it down as much as u can and hit it with a hammer might have to do that coupe of times itll eventualy loosen up

Do the above and I know you said your using an impact but is it a quality gun or did it come with the compressor. The Craftsman impact gun that came with my compressor is a joke. Plus DO NOT USE HEAT if you have used penetrating oil asking for a fire

I have a Husky Impact. It came as part of a set of 3 air tools. I have a 4hp compressor that puts out 150 psi (Old style compressor, 220 amp, not the new "5 peak hp" junk. My compressor runs a DA for 10 minutes with no breaks).

I can not get stuck on lug nuts off with my impact. Rusted axle with good rims on my trailer. Couldn't get it off.

Went to my dads house, he has a very similar compressor, actually, I think my compressor might be better. I used his $300 impact from when he was a mechanic. Lugs came off no problem.

Just because it's an impact, doesn't mean it's going to get the job done. Try taking it to a shop where they have top notch tools, and throw a mechanic a 5 spot to hit it once quick.

I have a cheap one that I picked up at liquidation world, it seems decent though. The bolts it came with were trash so I go new ones. I tried that a little yesterday but i wasn't hitting it very hard because I was worried about the crank. I'll try doing it harder but could I damage anything in the process?

I'm sure most of flammable fumes and solvent have evaporated by now, that is something I didn't really think about though thanks.
It's not a very good one, came in a kit with a bunch of other air tools. I think the biggest problem I'm having is the bolts don't want to thread very nicely. I'm thinking it could be because I've damaged the internal threads or there's rust build up. I'll try some silicone lubricant hopefully that will do the trick.

Ahh I also have an impact from a kit so that could be the problem.
When using an impact gun and the harmonic puller should I leave the flywheel bolt in but backed out a little or put a nut over the hole with the bolt out?
I saw a thread with tips on here and both methods were suggested. The middle piece of the puller wanders around allot when its in and causes issues.

Heres a pic, anyone have any idea why its white ?

Take a propane torch and heat up the steel center hub of the flywheel with the puller attached, then smack the end of the puller bolt with a hammer, sometimes you have to do this several times, tighten the bolt, heat the hub , smack the puller bolt, it should break free.

When all else fails there is always this option , so yes technically you can split a Yamaha 701 case without removing the flywheel, or at least without removing all of it lol.

Yepp my craftsman that came with my 33gal will not remove my F250 Lug nuts that are at 165ft·lb.(Even at 140 psi and number 4 on the gun.) I bought an IR titanium and at normal 90 psi and level 1 takes them off no problem

I was able to get it off thanks to your tips, heated it up hit it a few times then it came right off with the impact.
Thankfully I didn't have to chop it off, don't think mine was quite as rusty as yours.

That particular one came out of a saltwater ski, that stayed docked out by the ocean all of it life, I used a snap on puller, heat, a 5 lb sledge hammer, more heat, left the puller on for two weeks straight, stripped out the three bolt holes, what you see there was a last resort to save a decent set of 62t cases, flywheel, crank and stator were toast anyway.
