Can't install mag pump with new pump to shoe seal

I went to install my new built mag pump this evening and was having a hard time getting it lined up. I can get the splines in, but the pump won't slide forward far enough. It's about 1/8 inch too far back. I tried without the seal between the pump and shoe, and then I could get the holes to line up and bolts in. Holding my new seal up to the gap, it is way wider, there is not nearly enough room for it to fit. What's next?

Yes that's what I was trying to do, though I wasn't pushing too hard. It felt like I was forcing it too much. I will try again and see if it moves to where it should

If it’s a 155 mag, what kind of seal are you using? OEM, or R&D? OEM or OEM Remans from Jet Maniac should go if you’re able to get bolts in pump without seal in place. The rubber is very thin in front of the lip. The R&D seals are way thicker.

Good call! I was gonna mention that too, but I couldn’t remember what brand the thicker seal was or if I was just imaging the whole thing

I use one of these clamps between the nozzle and the pump seal to squish it forward and hold it so I can get the bolts in. Sometimes it takes a fair bit of force, but if you have something else wrong that makes the gap too small obviously that has to be fixed.

Are you positive the seal is not backwards? I've done that before. I had it flipped and it was sandwiching between the pump shoe and pump instead of fitting around on the outside of the pump.

Sorry did not get back to the ski until yesterday so couldn't provide an update. Seal was in correct orientation. Going in on a square nose. Turns out I just wasn't pushing forward enough. Being my first time installing a pump, I didn't realize that the seal compressed quite that much and thought it was binding. I used the technique in the video, pushed forward harder and it lined up
