CDI questions.

I want to replace the wires on my CDI in my X2. It's a 780, but using the 650 electrics. I mainly want to do it so I have other options of where I can place it. I want to get as much stuff as possible off the bottom of the tower.
I have several CDI's that I assume went bad, ski back fired, etc. that I can practice on. I've heard that the JSS units people get back don't hold up too well in salt, etc. I don't know that for sure, just something I heard. I've also heard a ton of people swear by them. I'm not saying I could do any better job than them what so ever, but I'm really good with any other electronics, soldering etc. so I want to give it a shot.
I would like to try and do something like I've seen in some of your ski's with the TL setups. I like the idea of having the CDI setup like a coil-pack in a car, or a distributer where I could just replace the wires. Is there any type of replacement I could get, that would do this? I'm thinking of possibly trying to modify a stock one to have the terminal studs I'm talking about.
If anyone has any ideas, ever tried to mess with these, let me know. Also if there are any kind of other options as far as after market stuff, that would have the setup I'm talking about. Can't really afford to go TL, unless someone wants to donate one!:fing02:

:trink26: Note the last picture, the red arrows show where the start of the hard plastic starts that the wire is pushed into.

Maybe I should try to look into shortening the existing wires, re-terminating them and trying to get/make some sort of pass through box so I could connect wires of my own choice/length to the other side. Any ideas on that?

Why not carefully split the sheathing down the middle and lay another conductor next to it from the new wire, then close it up and tape the crap out of it....:smashfreakB:

Because I seem to sink my ski everytime it gets towed! I need a solid boat, and I really need to get every aspect of the electrical system fixed right. I know I'd be screwing with that all the time.

Will, I rewired one of my CDIs after having JSS redo two of my 650 coils. The method he used was not waterproof and I had spark issues for the first 2 days of daytona last year. I swapped the CDI out with a spare I redid (similar to JSS way, but completely waterproof) and its been working great since. I will try to see if I have any pics of how I did it. I still recommend buying all the parts that JSS uses for the 650 coil rebuilds, because its all high quailty stuff. But do the epoxy work yourself. To be fair for JSS, I had him do a 750 coil after the 650 ones, and I have had ZERO issues with that one.

I have a spare tow hook like that you can have if you pay the shipping. I bought a set off of eBay for an 1100 ZXi. Well the flat part on them was a little bent. Nothing major but I was ticked off. So after emailing the seller, they sent me a spare set and said keep the others. Good deal! They willl fit fine no problems like WAB had on his ski. I may use one on the back since I cut my hull...
