Surfriding Champion Freeride FP1

Before getting this started, I really need to send out a big thanks to the great companies that are helping make this possible, FP Jet Skis, Cold Fusion , Kommander Industries, DASA Racing, Blowsion, and Hydro-Turf. I'm really fortunate to be at a point in my life where I can pick the companies that I want to work with and build this boat the way I think a Freeride boat with out any compromises, they way I think it should be done. Some of the companies mentioned above I have worked with for years, and they have helped me achieve things I never dreamed possible. And the two new ones, DASA Racing and FP Jet Skis, I have chosen to work with because I feel they are building the best product right now for the kind of riding that I want to do. There is one final sponsor that I am working with for this build, and my riding program for 2014...but we are still working on finalizing that one.

The goals at the outset of this build are to put together a bullet proof freeride package that would be rock solid and comfortable in everything from 2' Oceanside to 30' Killers, yet still be a fun boat to bring to the river.

Quick and dirty build list: (I'll update with more details, but here are the broad strokes.)
FP1 Hull/Hood
DASA 850
Everything Cold-Fusion makes to make it 100% solid out of the gate
Bling and some handling components by Blowsion
Build by Kommander Industries because he has always built me incredibly reliable skis!
Custom Hydro-Turf

I'm going to ask the X for some help on a couple parts of this project. The first one will be the turf layout. As some of you guys know, I work pretty closely with HT through my business Soft-Deck. All our material is CNC cut and we can do some pretty cool stuff with it. Custom inlays are easy, but we can also grove the material with the router which would allow us to write or draw logos in the turf, or even make a custom traction pattern in the Hydro Turf. I'm thinking sponsor logos would be a cool addition and in the next few days I will upload some rough ideas I have and I'd love feed back.

Also, this boat is going to get a complete wrap. I've got a designer that will be helping lay it all out, but I hope I'll be able to post some of the options here and get some feedback.

I'm starting this with the FP1 hull for a number of reasons. Pete and I talked about this concept years ago, and he really took a lot of the ideas that I wanted to see in a hull and implemented them. I think the concept of having a bit of rocker added to a hull is the best hull advancement for a surf hull we have see yet, but I'm not a fan of a slippery boat in a corner. This boat has some bottom characteristics that make it similar to the 08+ style SJ bottom. My hope is that it will turn in a similar fashion, where it will hold a rail if you lean it over, and you simply flatten it out when it is time to slide. Only time will tell if this is how it handles for me, I have not yet ridden one of these. But this is the impression I have gotten from those who are riding them. The FP1 also has the tray widened by pushing the gunnels out close to the edge of the bond line (see pics below.) I got mine without footholds because I've just been using straps the last several years, and no holds make for more foam = more float if it sinks. And because the entire gunnel has been pushed out, I think I've probably got enough room to run the strap where I want it without having to cut in to the side of the tray. And I heard nothing but good things about the build quality and strength of these hull, which is really important to me, I do have a bit of a history of breaking things. When it was my job to ride, if stuff breaks, no biggie, you just fix it. But honestly, I've had enough of dealing with fiberglass for the rest of my life...and besides, time spent fixing is time I don't have to ride. This hull comes with the all the mounts infused and all the threads are brass inserts pump shoe fitted, all billet water fittings, anodized exhaust tube and outlets, pump dump scupper, and there is double hood seal and a lip on the hood to help keep it on the boat.

The pictures below are just as it came out of the crate, and are pretty poor quality with the lighting in our shop...but I was really impressed and wanted to share them. More and better coming soon. I will post all of the build pics in a facebook gallery here. and will link any other information on the build here as well.

Epic news! These hulls do look like a perfect mixture. If there is a boat that can do nearly all sorts of riding this is the pick. Big surf freestyle, yatch chaser, corner carver. Just can't wait to see you testing it!

Thanks guys...hopefully this gets some photos to show up here.

wow, the attention to detail is amazing on these!!! even has the locators for the midshaft housing. I see a FP1 in my future, in my opinion this is the best looking hull yet!. i also like that I canput whatever footholds i like in it

I like the ROK type splash guard on the rocker and the hood is reminiscent of the Kenny style that is a proven design. Also like the cutouts of the bond line at the rear, nice. Should elevate an already awesome free rider even more. TRICK!

I see a lot of RN SJ in the rear end...what is the difference in length?

Sweet looking ski! I love the engine compartment!
