Chan Pole Length

Hey Guys, I know the consensus on the Chan pole length seems to be the X-Metal comp pole, which is what I currently have on my Chan, but it seems VERY short. I know once the ski is in the water it is going to sit down in the water and bring the pole back towards me some, but for a ski to be used for some cruising and boat chasing, how is the comp pole for comfort? I rode Sportfish's Chan this weekend in the surf (Thanks Sportfish!!) and i believe we arrived on his ski having the standard length pole being slid in an inch or two, which to me felt perfect, and considerably shorter than what i was used to on my Square with a -4 RN pole. i couldn't imagine what it would be like riding a ski with the comp length, especially in surf, or in choppy lake conditions. I know the comp pole seems to be what most use for high power flatwater boats, but what about an all around lake boat? For the Chan owners out there what do y'all think?

I thought that the comp was to short for lake cruising and such on my chan. I was able to aquire a (no longer made) X-metal mid length pole and i think that it was perfect.

I am just contemplating whether I should ride it first to see what it's like. I just know my steering setup sits pretty far forward as it's the ATP mini steering. Any other current/past chan owners have any insight?

Just ride it!! No matter what the length is, you will get use to it. Don't do standard , it will be way too long! My personal chan had mid x-metal pole. But I've ridden many with comp and can't really feel the diffrence.

Mine's a comp length pole with the adj plate pulled all the way out. I'd almost prefer to get a mid length, with the plate pushed all the way in for flatwater, and pulled all the way out for surf...

Yeah, currently mine has the plate pulled all the way out as well on the comp and it's still super short. I guess I may give the comp a shot, but by the looks of it, I'll be switching it out for a longer one.

I'm running a comp pole all the way in...no probs. I added a FFH to help offset it some.

Pablo, that's a comp pole? For some reason mine looks a good bit shorter than that. Maybe just because I don't have any of the controls on it?
It's supposed to be...that's what I ordered.

-5 to -2

medium
31.5" to 34.5"
-7 to -4

competition
27.5" to 30.5"
-11 to -8

Pivot-to-pivot straight line lengths of adjustable handle poles at their longest point. They start at 2” shorter than OEM:

Standard: (25” core) = 36½” this is adjustable from -2” to -5”

Medium: (23” core) = 34½” this is adjustable from -4” to -7”

Shorty: (19” core) = 30½” this is adjustable from -8” to -11”
