Other Cheap (er) motor shipping!!

There may be cheaper ways, but...... I just shipped a 93 pound WR500 long block off using Greyhound (the bus station) and it cost me 86 bucks, Fedex was quoted at $202 for 5 days at the package place. I think it was like 3 or 4 days to Charleston from Corpus too. Whoever you ship to will have to come to their local greyhound station to pick it up. They will call them, and if they can't get ahold of them they will call you for instructions and they do return phone calls too! or at least in my case.

I believe the max weight per package is 100 pounds.

Just remember to ship in the Roughneck Rubbermaid 18 gallon containers ($8.31 after tax at Wal-Mart) so your package doesn't bust open. If you saw how badly this engine fit in that container and what I did to make it fit since the entire stock exhaust was attached, you would be sold on them too. Just drill holes in the top on the rails and add zip ties.

I shipped my motor through fedex in a rubbermaid for $85, insured and everything. Granted, it wasnt across country but still cheap/

It cost me $92 to ship a 650 through a packing place that had FedEx pickup last week, but it only weighed 52ish pounds, this package weighed 93 pounds. I only charged the guy 100 to ship... but I have a severe conscious and knew this guy just wanted his 500 running. Looking back I should of just recycled that big pig, J/k.

How much did the engines ya'll shipped weigh? This one was about 40 pounds heavier than a Yami 650 short block with the head and coupler still attached, but cheaper and faster to ship.

Don't use uPs if u can help it. I had a Dasa engine shipped across the country and it was beat to hell by ups. It was crated in a rough neck with a wooden floor and 4" thick foam rubber all the way around. They must have dropped it more than once...off the back of the truck. Carb nipple broke off, cases bent around the flywheel housing and possibly a toasted crank. I insured it for 5k and they said too bad for u!!! They said the extra $50 I paid for insurance was not insurance but merely a declaration of value. I've used fedEx to ship an engine before and it was all good. Greyhound is a good idea too. Uship has worked great for me too. I had a guy throw a whole ski in his truck for me and haul it to NY from Ga for $200.

You are still paying too much.

I can ship most motors through my fedex account(which only takes a credit card to open) for around $50 if they are under 100 pounds. Depending on residential or commercial the cost could be a bit more. Insurance also adds extra.

$36 insured to ship a 6m6 shortblock (63lbs with head and mounting brackets) roughly 300 miles using USPS, 18x18x18 box from walmart, custom made plywood floor with chunks of table-saw crafted 4x4 as motor mounds, cardboard where there would be pressure points, plastic bag and a ton of packing peanuts stuffed everywhere and the buyer said it arrived in great condition.

I have doubled boxed engines before and it worked it out great.

When/if I ship another engine I want to try a different method. I want to take it to my local packaging store, double bag the engine, then use that spray expanding foam to keep it solid inside the box. The guy at the store said he would only charge me $25 for all packaging.

I heard thats how Jetworks does it. Double bag it. Set it inside a tote with a wooden floor and the spray foam to lock it in the tote. Secure the lid and ship.
I just shipped one in a tote with a 2x4 frame floor and then bubble wrapped it TIGHT in the tote. It arrived safe from GA to MN.
