Sold my SXR hull and picked up a used EME Q8 hull back in early February. My SXR hull was about 170lbs and this hull/hood is a little over 70lbs. I haven't really been in a rush as the michigan riding season usually doesnt begin until mid to late april (with the exception of this year where we were in the upper 70s all week). I finally have things together and started to get things moving today with some turf on the tray.

Whats going in it?
2009 Stock Bore SXR Motor
Stock Carbs
Stock Ignition
Stock Pump
Factory Wet Pipe
ATP Waterbox
650sx Driveshaft
X-Metal Adjustable Handpole
X-Metal Adjustable Steering System

Im really pumped for this summer/riding season and cannot wait to ride this hull.

Heres a couple pics I took of the hull back when I first got it home. I have more later.

only 70 lbs? I was just reading another review of the BOB GEN 2 and I thought I heard his weighed more than a stock superjet hull. I guess I know which direction I'll be going when I start piecing together a build.

Interesting, but i don't get it ? are you going to carry your hull on your back ? is that why your so concerned with the weight ? if a hull performs and does every thing expected of it even with a smaller displacement motor .why is there so much riding on rtr weight,is this to make up for lack of ????? .. also is this a glass hull were talking about ???price ,durability ,carbon ect... if you want to compare numbers.. it almost sounds like your a foe poster with a underlying sales tactic .idk

Read that thread carefully - the order from the Dealer to the Ski Clinic was that they were to be used as Surf hulls and getting a lot of abuse. They built them accordingly and were built with fiberglass, not carbon. Cost brand new was around $3500 on those (not including the shipping and other crap mentioned in that thread).

The hull in this build thread is a Carbon Q8, and cost $5500ish when brand new.

That is quite a difference in price.

Put the same drivetrain in a Stock weight hull, then put that same drivetrain into a lightweight hull.

ALL the difference in the world! Feels like almost gaining a couple hundred CC's (and more reliable). if I were to start my jetski "career" all over again, first thing I would have done would have been a lightweight hull.

Weight really does make a dramatic difference.

Power to weight ratio - what a concept
So what would the ideal hull be if one wanted to build a sweet freestyle ski for flat water and occasional trips to the surf?

this is NOT the thread to debate / discuss that - this is Bobby's build this.

but my answer is: whatever hull you feel most comfortable on in both situations :Banane09:

Got the turf 98% done. (Huge thanks to Roo for letting me work at his place all weekend). All i have left is to run super glue and silicone around all the edges. I used this technique last year on my SXR and had zero problems with peeling. Next is to get the steering cable in and the pump in and sealed up.

Thanks for looking

PS...I wish my hull looked as shiny and clean as it does it the pics

Got the handpole and steering installed. Handpole was a pain. Yami bushings had to be sanded down. A lot of sand, refit, sand, refit...

Got some solid hours in this week after work to get some more done on the ski.

Mounted the ebox and bilge.

I finally got the engine bolted/loctited in. The wetpipe chamber was a pain. I had to grind some of the bedplate to get it to fit in there perfect.

The ATP waterbox was a little easier. I really like how it fits in. The legs on the bottom really give it some stability. The long exhaust tube had to be cut about 3 inches. Everything in the exhaust system seems to be really tight.

Whats left? My biggest issue is securing the kart tank (tips welcome here). The rest is basic odds and ends making sure everything is tightened down and looking neat.

If all goes well i should be riding Saturday!

looks good man!

i say roll with the idea we had before on the tank - should work fine.

for extra security, glue a piece of turf to the bottom of the tank, then glue the tank to the bottom of the hull (that already has turf on it).

this is what i did for my battery, along with a wimpy strap - worked great and kept everything in place.

should you need to pull the tank out, just re-glue.

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

My Q8 had some tabs the bottom to hold the tank straps - stainless glued into place w/ what looks to be 3m 3500. Does your ski have that done? I used Kawi fuel tank straps to hold the tank in place, but my setup is different too.

itching my arms
Milled fibers mixed with resin to a peanut butter consistency, I like to use a 1" thick piece of ss or alum drill and tap for an attachment like an sj or anything else u can find. Mix the glue make a pile stick the square plate in let cure, can use foam or again milled fibers to make 45 deg ledges on all sides, then just put a layer of two of glass carbon ect on top drill out the hole and your gtg

thanks guys for all the input. i ended up going with roo's idea of glueing the tank down then putting two straps over top. I crossed the straps a couple times and its in there perfect.

Should be all set to ride saturday or sunday depending on the weather!
