I've got my fx hull pretty stripped down except for the turf. So it has turf, footholds, a pancake pete and mild reinforcement. Ski with hood/hood hardware, fire extinguisher jug, 144 pump shoe, steering cable weighed in at 115lbs. I'm debating if I need to take the turf off, gut and re-foam. I think it has been about 13 years since the footholds were put in. Never glassed or defoamed so of course I would not be looking forward to it but would like some opinions on where my weight should be.

Any opinions?

I'm digging in the forums and found one FX that was 95lbs without the hood so maybe with a 12.5lb hood and some turf, footholds and the pancake my 115lbs is not that bad off

Is it really a$$ heavy? When I did my ski last year, it was bone dry an had never been opened up. Your weight doesn't seem too high. When there waterlogged, they are heavy!!!

You can always drill a tiny hole an see if water weeps out.

I did the above, realized I had a little water and installed plugs where I drilled the first holes. Just open plugs every time I head home for the day and it helps.

You can get by without refoaming....if it's not too water logged.

Thanks guys appreciate the support and it helps a ton in my decision.

Moto, to answer you I've never had it in the water just picked up the hull this year so I think I might just leave it alone for this year and worry about it if it behaves badly in the water.

I use the words badly with a grain of salt cause I'm going from a stock FX ski with a pipe to an FX with a 144 pump, hooker 10/15, footholds, tubbies, shortened handlepole, 760 ported with twin 46's, epic and increased compression. I'm pretty sure I'll need to learn how to ride all over again.

honestly that seems about a good 10 lbs too heavy. my fx kawi pump ready, tubbies, drain line, and reinforced w two layers of 1208 was 85.4, stock hood was 13.7, equals 99.1. so unless a pump shoe and pancake pete foot hold weight 15.1 lbs, i think you have a bit of water in your foam.........

That is interesting. I read through Superjetbrett build and his FX was at 80lbs with the stripped hull including the tray cut out and defoamed. hard to get a hard line on weight when everyone is using different scales as well.

my hull stripped down with no foam or floor but with reainforcment and kawi pump ready was 74.7. i had mine on the scale serveral times through out the build process just because i was trying to keep it as light as i could but yet surf strong.

74.7 was with the gunwalls completelty defoamed as well

Well I defoamed and she now ways in at 89lbs with the hood. After at least a year out of the water The foam was wet in isolated areas around the cooling line entry to the engine bay and the PVC that the driveline runs though. I'm going to seal these up good, put drain holes in the back. Layer the first few inches with closed cell foam then fill it with 4lb expansion. Hopefully all the water will be able to work it's way to the bottom and out the rear.
