Flat Water (whatever day) is not sponsored or is part of the Daytona Freeride..... Nick said he would like it on Sunday, but, it will be when it is, sounds like many are going to Daytona to go ride flat water everyday.

Exactly, 'Flatwater Friday' is not a scheduled part of the event but a loosely organized gathering started several years ago here on the X by several local riders especially 'Aircraftsalz.' It has grown every year (helped by some really flat surf 2 years ago and crappy surf/weather last year on friday. It is an obviously popular event that started much like the original daytona ride, just some people getting together to ride and hang out. It is also a good way for people to be able to demo skis of all kinds in much easier conditions.

There has been an ongoing facebook discussion about moving it to Sunday. It is a PITA for vendors. Two simultaneous events going on about a 45 minute drive apart. You want to have your booth setup with parts and knowledge available to help the surf guys stay on the water for a very short freeride while simultanously also be at the flatwater ride with parts and demo skis. Surf only guys will ride surf. Flatwater only guys and companies will choose flatwater.

That said what is the best time that fits in with the main surf event? Obviously it sounds like people will be riding flat all days but it would be best if there is a consensus (general agreement) about which day is best so those that want to go once will go on same day.

It is too bad no one has found a closer flatwater location. I remember years ago it was done in the bay by the bridge somewhere, but saltwater and TL is problematic for most.

Flatwater friday will be whatever day you decide to go. Lol. If you want to try a certain hull or motor ask the vendor when they plan to go and meet them there. It sounds like people will be there every day. If you are not in the market then play in the surf instead.

There were like 10 of us there the first year until the xscream crew showed up later with like 6 more. The surf was flat and we wanted to try some new "BADASS" hulls tem had made. Then Brian from Thrust showed up with a new short rickter hull. Then xscream came with a kong hull. It was butt cold. The next year Josh arranged for some boats to come throw some wakes and tons of other hull builders and people were there. Still butt cold. That water seems waay colder than the surf.

I agree wholeheartedly. Show up when you need to show up.

My whole deal with showing up for flatwater on Friday was for being on the hull market and having time to think over my purchase and arrange shipment/transportation, and not having to make a last minute decision on Sunday. I'm going with cash, if I can't demo on Friday, chances are I can't be buying things.

yeah, unfortunately the event cant be perfect for everyone....

Flatwater friday originally started as a sideshow to daytona freeride, but has built a pretty big following...

sorry bro, youre just gonna have to make the best of it....plan ahead, figure out who has what that you want to try and stalk them

Make a new thread and call it "Demo at Dias" and request people to only post what day and hull/motor package will be available to demo for that day

Flat water friday is the only reason I went to Daytona last year. I was in the market for a new hull, and Daytona was the perfect place to try a bunch of different hulls. I got to try a KDX, Footrocket, Rickters, Vision, and a Backie Chan. I was surprised there were no BOB's there to demo!

I'm going down to ride demo ski's (and buy) cause it's the closest place to do it this time of year. Riding flat water cause that's all I'll be using it for up north.
come join us on lake michigan...

waves are as big as ocean thats for sure... only downfall is theres not much spacing in between each wave
