Coupler alignment SXR

Location

I should be putting my motor back in this weekend, 1st time pulling a motor, are there any tricks for lining it all up? It looks like it will be tough to get the couplers together with the damper, should I spray silicon on the damper to lube it up and how do I know that the coupler is even, is there a specific size gap I am looking for between the two?? Any help is appreciated.

I think SXRs are much more forgiving than SJs. I just toss my motor in...push it all the way back and eyeball it and then tighten it down. Never had a problem yet and never used a shim... no need for silicone.

the SXR has a floating driveline. Like others posted, just eyeball it. You can use a micrometer to measure around the axis (90degree, 180 degree and 270 degree - 360 degree) to make sure that the motor is not kicked up or down or left to right. Space should be the same distance.

Yup, SXRs are much easier than a SJ. Bolt in the pump and push the drive shaft all the way towards the pump until it stops. Then slap that motor in and push it all the way back into the coupler. You can do some measurements, but I just use a strait edge all around the coupler to make sure that it is lined up. Tighten down the motor and then double check again.
