crank bearings

I'm rebuilding the motor on my FX-1. Pulled the crank to replace the seals. I brought my crank to a trusted mechanic friend and was told that both the front and rear bearings should be replaced because they're making noise. So I go online to check the prices, and so far I'm blown away by the OEM price. $182 for the front and $69 for the rear. I checked around and found them on Atlantic jetsports for $75 and $28, much more reasonable. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on this. Is the Atlantic jetsports bearings cheap for a reason? Should I stick with the OEMs? I've also seen the bearings on Boats.net for $136 and $51, I think these are OEM but not sure. Anywhere else have good prices on quality bearings?

Any advice is apprecieated.

thanks.

Just go for the AJS bearings since the crank is NOT getting a full rebuild with all new center bearing and rod kits. If you want a new rebuilt cheap crank you have get a SBT one or new use a Hotrods crank for basic stocker to limited mods, or on the high end side, a new OEM from Yamaha!

OK, I spent $200 on my Pro-X pistons which included all gaskets and bearings for topend job, except the head gasket which I spent $50 on oem. $40 on OEM crank seals. I spent another $150 to have the holes bored to match the pistons. Thats already close to $450 I have into this motor rebuild already. I'm trying to do a good quality rebuild here so does it make sense for me to drop an SBT crank into it? I'm trying to protect my investment which is why I'm asking about these AJS bearings.

Ok listen up because I hate to repeat myself,I can get you Nachi brand bearings for $65.45 for the front ,$22.50 a piece for the rears, this offer is for you only,it does not include shipping and will only apply when I am doing an order already, which I will be doing on Monday, as they do charge me for shipping.Nachi is a very well respected Japanese bearing MFG.

this r wsm i got crank bearings from Atlantic Jet sports
very good maybe beter oem

wsm bearings are not better or equal to oem (Koyo Seiko) ignore above...Those above Nachi bearings from Japan, I would use...I know of a good crank builder that uses them...

I find this post to be quite funny as the Nachi brand bearings would be coming from where, yep you guessed it WSM,its the only brand of bearings they sell.:thinkerg:

Just get the numbers of the bearings and call up a bearing supplier you can then choose from NTN, SKF, KOYO etc. etc. and it will be a whole lot cheaper

Good luck matching up that double row bearing on the front of the crank, not saying it can't be done but it will take some doing to find that one.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I got another question. Should changing these bearings be attempted by a noob like me or is this best left to the pros?

I would go ahead and buy the Nachi bearings with you but I'm wondering if I'm out of my league.

You are going to need a bearing splitter and a press to remove and install the bearings .:fing02:

Exactly.

I am sure there will be plenty of people to disagree....

If you don't have the tools, I would send it to someone with them.

The cost of damaging a crank or the bearings is more than just having it done right.

Our cranks, as well as my own personal cranks go to Crankworks exclusively.

My father in law rebuilds transmissions in his garage for a living. He has a press and a splitter. Is it pretty straight forward to install the new ones? Do they just go back onto the crank until they hit a physical limit?
