FX-1 Crash Damage

Location

So long story short my buddy crashed into me today, luckily nobody was hurt. Although my ski is looking pretty bad... Only the top deck is damaged, it does not extend through the bondline or to the bottom deck. What should I do, I have no experience laying fiberglass. What materials will I need and how exactly should I go about it. Thanks

The "secret" to a good repair is making sure you have all the cracked areas cut off.The long cracks you should take a Dremel too and make a V cut on both sides of the crack, making sure you get all the micro cracks removed too.lf you don't the cracks will keep coming back. But try to save any larger pieces in the damaged area.

lt would also be a good idea to remove the engine, because you will need to repair on both sides.

As far as glassing back, you will need to research the X.There is a wealth of info on here that will answer most of your questions.lf you want to PM me to ask anything specific,I'll be glad to help. But spend some time looking up the info first. And there is also YouTube tons of vids on there

I would make a plug of the inside of the repair area first. Wax paper than some cloth. Then Grind out all the garbage material and glue the plug to the inside. That should easily give you the correct contour. Then lay from the outside. Make some fairing compound and blend it all in.

West systems has some good guides on their website.

Thanks guys, so here's where I'm at. Ground all the cracks and garbage fiberglass out, sanded down the gel coat where I'm gonna lay the glass on the outside. Tomorrow I'm gonna start laying the glass, I've got the west system 105 and the 205 hardener and glass mat. My plan pretty much is to start from the inside with the glass, lay a few layers behind everything ground out then from the outside where the spaces are take some of the mat and cut it up into strands and mix it up with the epoxy and fill all the spaces the lay some over that and sand.

So does this sound about right, like I said I've never done any fiberglass so just making sure I'm doing the right thing, thanks.

Corey,l don't know how many layers you have applied, but make the last one covering the whole area.Probably some thinner glass would be good then you have everything bonded together. Then throw a few stickers on it and do what redwood said!!!
